6" Charter Bulldog Target .44

Lack of or not with the taper is no big deal to me, a shroud for the ejector would be nice.

I do like a shrouded ejector, but I guess they were going for the more classic lines.

Still, I bet that puts a big ol slug right on target with a good bit of thump.

That barrel is hideous. I know its a low priced revolver, but would it kill them to shroud the ejector or give it a little taper......
The shroudless ejectors were common on vintage Charters for decades, other revolvers too.

If someone is looking for a long barrel .44 for range fun, I guess this is the ticket, but .44 Special, like standard pressure .45 Colt, doesn't gain much velocity from the longer barrel. 3 inches or less is perfect for .44 SPL, want a longer barrel, get a .44 Mag.

I do like tho that Charter isn't focusing solely on conceal carry guns by coming out with 6 inch long barrels, the 9mm is a perfect choice for the modern "tactical" shooter who wants a revolver to have a revolver. The 6 inch .357's are great to see too, I'd get one, but I already got one

that's a really big gun to only hold 5 rounds of light loaded 44 special.

FYI- from Handloader #236 as written by Brian Pearce-

"The second category (22,000 psi) includes the Colt Single Action Army, New Frontier SAA, Charter Arms Bull Dog and United States Fire-Arms SAA-pattern revolvers that are U.S. manufactured."

He goes on to say-

"The Charter Arms Bulldog has proven strong enough to handle these loads, but to prevent premature loosening, they should be used somewhat sparingly. Besides, heavy loads in the Bulldog are unpleasant and difficult to control in rapid-fire, double-action shooting."

I've fired 258 gr. cast SWC handloads from my 3" Bulldog and even though the loads were by no means heavy (6.5 grs. of Unique), "difficult to control" is an understatement.

35 Whelen has a lot of hands on experience with owning/shooting/reloading/casting for the 44spl's. He's put enough lead down range accurately with that cartridge to be what I consider an excellent authority of the 44spl cartridge/cast bullets for that cartridge/reloading for that cartridge.

Myself I've owned/carried bulldogs since the 80's, make no mistake about it they bring a lot to the table.

Those are real world results from my bulldog. I prefer 2400 over unique in the snubnosed 44spl's. More velocity with less pressure.

I actually like that 6" bbl'd target model. Could prove to be interesting for range play/plinking in a small framed package. As Jerry said lite loads. I'll have to look at reviews and treads written by people who bought and shoot them. Could turn into an excellent plinker with those 162gr/175gr/200gr wc's pictured below.

Older thread...

I have a Stratford 3” Bulldog I purchased recently and sent back to the factory to be rebuilt. I really like the size of the package.
I think this 6” version would be a perfect candidate to have the barrel trimmed to 3” and the front sight reinstalled. It would give me a stainless version of what I currently have with adjustable sights and an ounce or two of bull barrel. I like that idea!
