Just getting into the 300 BLK hand loading arena...been loading primarily precision .45 acp and also 9mm for plinking. Now my second AR build is a 300BLK from 5D Tactical, 16” barrel.

Has anyone ever tried/use Wilson’s TAC-TX 300 BLK Custom Match Grade ammo? I use their custom .45acp MGA religiously for competition and molded my handloads around their spec’s for incredible accuracy. I have no doubt their ammo will be superb, but at $60/box shipped for 20 rounds I’m hoping one of you fine gentlemen may have some background before I jump—or if not, a go to load for 300BLK that’s your most accurate?

Appreciate whateva ya got!

Ive tested alot of different bullets in my 300 BO. Im running a 16" BHW barrel. Best I have shot has been 125gr Hornady SSTs over 19gr of W296/H110. Does a good number on deer too. Speer 125gr makes a great plinker bullet at a decent price. Never had alot of luck with Sierras. I shoot a fair amount of 150gr FMJs from my 300 BO as well. And youre correct, $3 a shot is crazy. But the Barnes 110gr black tips are running about 60 cents a piece last I looked if you want to reload them. I never found the accuracy to be all that great.

Are you just looking for accuracy, no concern for terminal performance? sub-sonic or super sonic?

Thanks Kaldor, appreciate the insight. I too just purchased H1110 for my powder. Gonna look at those SST’s—been reading about them and how good they are with deer, glad to see some validation.

I picked up a box of 20 Sig 125’s Match Grade to try and get it zeroed when I’m done with the build. Trying to get myself up to speed on this caliber as I’m not familiar with it at all but wanted a good dual purpose AR for hunting and target. Tired of lugging my father’s 700ADL in .243 from 1963 in the woods. Love the caliber, but almost every shot I’ve ever taken over the years was 50 yards and under.

Was hoping someone had shot the Wilson’s so I could see the specs on OAL, etc. I’ll try your load when I start and compare.

Right now my concern is accuracy so I’ll know how well the barrel is and how the gun cycles. From there I’ll work up TP. All supersonic.

They are pricey but they have worked well for my brother and I. Barnes 110gr TAC-TX made for the 300 Blackout. My brother shot a ~2.8 inch 10-shot group with them at 260 yards once from hit 300 BO.

Yea, I’m leaning toward a box of those to try my first set of handloads. Didn’t want to use the handloads first when trying I function test the gun and get it zeroed. Appreciate the info...

If you are going to use it to deer hunt, I highly recommend the hornady 110g GMX monolithic bullet. My daughter has taken two bucks with this bullet, sitting on a healthy charge of lil gun, 16'' barrel, and both times the bullet performed perfectly. Full pass through shots, one hit shoulder and still expanded and passed through. exit holes were nothing catastrophic but a quarter to 50 cent piece size and produced plenty of blood for tracking.

These bullets aren't cheap, but when hunting, I don't think its fair to the game to shoot a sub par bullet to save $10 a box.

The Sig 125s will help you get your scope where you need it. If you are going to handload, and want to shoot deer, the Barnes bullets will get it done, expensively. I just prefer the Hornadys because they are alot cheaper, and in my rifle, they are more accurate. They will open pretty well all the way down to about 1700 fps, which has been verified in numerous places.

If youre shooting deer at a 100 yards and in, the 300 BO with a LPVO is hard to beat, its fast and light. However, I honestly wouldnt shoot beyond 150 yards and expect a clean kill, Mr Murphy and all that. The 300 BO shoots such a short fat bullet, it just bleeds velocity badly.

The Wilson loading is a Barnes 110gr bullet probably over about 20.5gr of Lil'Gun to get 2400 FPS. Its not anything magical.

Yea, 99 percent of my hunting will be between 50-75 yards tops. I hunt in the same place that I use my Ravin R-9 Crossbow (love that thing BTW) and I can Robin Hood bolts with it at 40 yards easily.

Good to know those Sig’s will help me get the gun to where it needs to be to start. From there, I’ll certainly compare the Barnes and Hornadys and see which one this gun actually prefers once it’s done. I’m hoping it the Hornadys too—I’m up for saving wherever possible.

So Wilson uses Lil gun ay? That’s good to know. Was curious how it got it up that speed and had to figure the OAL was gonna be super short.

Thanks beeenbag and couldn’t agree more on humane kills—that’s why I wanted to hand load in the first place. Factory, I’ve found, only gets you so far. For my person CC 1911 and my Walther P99, nothing but tried and tested handloads. Some disagree and say when it comes to their lives they want ammo professionally done, but I prefer knowing exactly what’s in there and how it will perform.

Yeah, LilGun is about the best powder for pure velocity. However, it does burn wicked hot, so I stopped using it, because I dont want to burn the throat out on my rifle. I can deal with a little lower velocity.

lol...I hear that. I use N310 for my 45 acp loads under 200 HAP’s and it too is an insanely fast powder.

But cool burning compared to nitro and especially high nitro content powders.

I really want to try those new A tip 250s in a 300blk contender barrel for subsonic group chasing. My local range has some wild wind. :cuss:

I agree, N310 is great in .45 ACP.

I use N310 for my ........ and it too is an insanely fast powder.

My point was that being very fast burning has nothing to do with how hot it does/does not burn. Nor is LilGun insanely fast like N310. N310 is very fast and LilGun is slow as far as pistol powders go.

N-310 is no nitro content and burns much less hot than high nitro content LilGun. Burn rate is irrelavant here.

I didn’t know that. Just learned something new—again.
