What's your most " Fun Gun"

Pre-Christmas at the Deer Camp reminded me of one I forgot. My workhorse camp gun. It's an M1917 that was sporterized a long time ago, likely in the '50's or 60's. It has a goofy custom stock on it (herters?) that somebody glass bedded in a crude but effective manner. Lots of gouging and goop, but they got a good clean fit on the barrel channel and barrel shank. I'm guessing it was somebodies NRA match rifle back when folks still shot 30-06 as it bears shadows of a barrel band front globe sight and a cutout and D/T for a Redfield or Lyman receiver sight and the trigger has been reworked, stripper clip guide was left intact, and the stock was shaped in a manner of some vintage match rifle's I have seen from the period. Sometime in the 80's it was converted into a scoped hunting rifle judging by the Weaver ring mount and 80's Bushnell Sportview fixed 4 that was D/T'd to it with the K-Mart price tag still on it. I found it at a pawnshop for $100 several years ago, and picked it up as a project gun planning to use the action as a basis for something cool. Then I shot it. The thing just shoots, really well, with whatever load I throw at it. Swapped the Sportview out for an inexpensive 1.5x4.5, and it lives at my deer camp. It's the only rifle I have that seems shoot any load, at any speed, to the same POI (minute of deer vitals at least) to 100 yards. Everything from M1 safe 150 FMJ to 180 gr full house Norma Alaska bearbusters will knock a beer can off a post at 100 with no adjustment. The thing is uncanny. I like to take it along when we go camp hopping late in rifle season as an informal shooting match will often break out with a few friendly wagers. It's A LOT of fun to put this beat up old warhorse up against the latest, greatest and shineyist rifles money can buy. It's a ringer.

I have fun with all my guns. The one that always makes me smile is my SKS. Fun, cheap, reliable, powerful, there's really nothing it can't do. Utilitarian and very fun.

I'm calling it a tie. If I could take only two of my guns to the range, they would be a brace of stainless steel Rugers: the 5.5" MkII Target and the 7.5" Redhawk. The MkII is easy to shoot fairly well and the cost per round is nothing to worry about. The Redhawk is the second most difficult of my revolvers to shoot accurately (first is a 103-year-old Colt PPS with a really stiff trigger), but it's a rewarding challenge and, of course, quantity of recoil has a quality all its own. For me, it's just the right amount of thump.

If I had to choose just one, it just wouldn't be as much fun.

Well I knew there was a kinda a joke there.. But nothing I have not already thunked...and dreamed..

I try to be humorous; however, often I'm too whatever..

Unless, uncle is supplying the ammo, FA is a very expensive eater.

You have a piece of history and beauty; enjoy!

Yesterday, after her first range trip, my new Grand Power Q100 has been elected as my most fun gun: scary accurate soft shooter.

4" 500 S&W...always brings a smile to the face of anyone who shoots it...

Some Japanese businessmen I was asked to take shooting...none of them had even seen a real handgun before..

Please tell me you built them up to that 500 S&W and you did not let that be the 1st pistol they fired. One side of me thinks wow what a blast, but the other side of me says that may have been cruel.. a wonderful wonderful powerful cruelty. :)

My most fun gun now? Idk. Depends on my mood

But the most fun I had with one gun was a west German ithaca 72 lever action. (Henry h001 nowdays) I shot a brick every decent Sunday from 10 until 13 or so and quite a bit after that. Dad still has it. I'd have worn that rifle slap out if I hadnt found out that women werent men.

Probably had more money too. I've bought most every lever action 22 made at this point including the Henry and an ithaca but it just isn't the same

That is correct...gave them some safety instructions and then started them off with .22s...then .38s, .357s and .41s...we hid the 500 till last...

They were all restaurant owners or managers from Tokyo here for a business seminar... The organizer happened to be a friend of friend which is how I got involved... From what I was told later the shooting was the biggest hit of the trip...

The load was 18.0 grains of Unique behind a 350 grain Berry's plated bullet...only 1080 fps and with the comp I've had little girls shoot it...does have a GREAT muzzleblast and flash as 1/2 the powder burns in a 2' radius around the muzzle...really great on a indoor range...

I always work up to the x-frame and then let them shoot my little 44 mag 329pd with the factory wood grips. The smile usually goes away pretty quick but it's more of a ruler to the palm pain than a permanent one.

I've been surprised by many of the different nationality I've had the opportunity to meet through work and take shooting. Sometimes I'm surprised by the strict laws they have sometimes Im happily surprised by the lack of them.

Ruger stainless Super Blackhawk 44 mag 5.5” tied for first with my Marlin 1895G 45-70.

Blue Dot with 240 MBC SWC for the former, 2400 with MBC 405 for the latter. Great fun!

That 500 would take down Godzilla. I'll bet they will be talking about that trip for a long time.

Sir I have to respectfully disagree with you on this, I have seen that rascal shake off tank shells... and 500 s&w is powerful but not that strong...

Some visual evidence.. And if you need I have more to show you..

Tranters.jpg Here's a few of my fun guns, they're English Adam's patent revolvers.
The top one was probably used by the confedracy in the 1860's and is currently non firing. It's a 32 bore cavalry model and it's huge!

I also have a Remington but it was probably too late to make a difference, its from 1863
