I was in a sporting goods store over in Idaho a week ago and looking at the display case of pistols. I noticed they had one of the new Hellcat pistols.

It was next to a row of Sig P365s in all sorts of flavors and colors.

I asked the guy to see it and a P365 to get a good comparison between the two. I fondled both and really liked the Hellcat. Price was $499.

The clerk said that they get one or two in and they are gone within hours and have to wait another week to get another one in. Said it reminded him of when the P365 was released, and now, they aren't selling.

He said since I was a Washington resident, I could buy it from them and they would deliver it to my FFL in Washington the next day to do the paperwork.

Well, I buy all my guns online and have them shipped to my FFL directly within a few days, and this gun shop is typically $50 to $150 over prices I can get online, so I passed.

I decided that I wanted to go ahead and get a Hellcat before any more idiotic gun legislation was passed in Washington and went online.

Online prices are either $520+, or out of stock everywhere that has them listed at $499.

Going back to the gun shop Monday to see if lightning can strike twice, but I think I missed a rare opportunity.

$20 more online than local? Not too rare if you ask me...

If you want it bad enough to start this thread can’t imagine $20 standing in your way. That’s 4 espresso lunches in millennial budgeting terms.

Why overpay to be a beta tester? Give it 6-12 months and any issues will be worked out and you will get it for less. That would be the lesson I would take from the P365 and apply to the new Hellcat.

PS There are already reports of broken strikers.

He’s making the point that it costs MONEY for the Idaho store to actually HAVE the pistol in their case for you to “fondle”, then try to find it online to save $20...

Sam

Except that I stated the Idaho store had it for $20 cheaper than online and I should have bought it. I also stated that usually their prices are significantly higher than online prices. For instance, they have a Taurus G2c on the shelf for $250. Online price is $50 -$80 less.

I get the urge to claim moral superiority by people who have no problem paying more money for their firearms locally, but most everything I buy has to be transferred to my WA FFL anyway, and I sleep just fine buying my primers and powder and ammo locally.

And why don't people get all huffed and puffed over other people buying ammo online? Or powder and other reloading supplies?

The profit margin is much higher for those items than on firearms, yet people tend to judge fellow gun owners harshly for buying firearms online.

FWIW mine has about 1000 rounds through it without a single malfunction. It’s worked with 124 grain HST, Cor-Bon 115 grain +P DPX, Tullammo and my reloads. It’s my carry gun when I need something smaller for easier concealment.

Not claiming moral superiority, just explaining the point that (I believe) Plan2Live was making. The overhead that an actual gun store has is well documented in many posts here. I like saving money as much as the next guy but I also like to support my local businesses, and, at least for me, an FFL transfer fee + shipping usually negates any savings by purchasing online.

Best regards,
Sam

Not as many as the 365 launch, but there already have been a few reported strikers breaking. Not super unusual, but something to keep an eye on.

I like to give a new gun model a solid year to shake the bugs out.

Lots of good point made on both sides of this discussion of LGS/Online.

Ever notice how many online gun sales are made from someone’s somewhere LGS. :what:

Both are available in our free market society and we have debates on where to buy. :(

Thankful I have a choice thank you founding fathers for the 2nd. :) New Years Resolution. Budget more funds from my fixed income for guns.

Add: Disposable Income.

If you are going to buy it online then go online and fondle it.

Sounds like he frequents sites I don't.

The dealer says if he can't match it order it online an he will take his $25. Besides he says he makes lots more on the little stuff with way higher markups I buy from him than the guns.
