Buying stuff I want before election.

Uh... we do know that Presidents can't make laws... right?
We do, but the masses don't, which is what leads to banics every election cycle. At today's prices, if you want it, and you have the means, now is the time to get it. On the flip side, it would be nice if those same masses who are scared of what they could lose, would use the same amount of energy to keep it from happening, by getting to the ballot box...

Whether your candidate wins or loses, or whether there is a panic or not, it never hurts to be prepared. We should have all learned our lesson by now that shortages can occur.

Stock up ammo, components, or both, they won't go stale.

As far as guns, two ways to look at it. You can buy the guns you think they might ban, or you can buy the guns you think they won't ban. Or both.

On a state level, if your state is thinking about serious gun bills, buy now. If NY or CT is any indicator, they will not give you advance notice. You'll wake up one morning to find your rights have been seriously restricted.

Wa. State is attempting some harsh restrictions. I'm making my list and checking it twice.

So far
Couple lowers
Pmags
Ak steel mags
High cap Glock mags
Lots of primers
A large sg ammo order of .556

"We do, but the masses don't, which is what leads to panics every election cycle."

Truth. I wasn't thinking about it that way?

Didn't own a bump-stock?

I didn't either but between that and "impeach until your party is in charge, voters be damned" and "I'll take their guns and send in the guard to enforce it" mentalities....I'm not taking chances. And those are current events not movie plots. Luckily I haven't liked any gun designed since the 80s so I'm good.

I'll continue building my stock of .22 lr. I don't have a count right now but I probably have close to 15k rounds at the moment. It's amazing how quickly they disappeared after the '08 election.

I've been busy buying centerfire ammo, but I should add in some 22 lr as well. I had some, but it's old and is slowly getting used.

Just ordered some more 10mm brass, some bullets, and some rifle rounds.

Just too much stuff I need to be well-stocked on everything. Not enough extra in the paycheck to buy enough to make me comfortable. An extra thousand primers every month is nice, but I use four different types in various calibers, so having at least 5k of each on hand would be about $600. 5k bullets in various weights for pistol is another few hundred bucks, and powder is a similar quandary.

If I just focused on one or two calibers/loads, then stocking up is no problem. But when you shoot everything from 9mm to .45-70 govt, it gets complicated, and expensive.

Washington state is going to start requiring background checks on ammo, so I'm trying to focus on that. I would like a new Hellcat, and I still need to get an AR-10 upper, but the lowers are already requiring waiver of HIPPA, 10-day waiting period, extra $25 fee, and a mandatory approved safety course every five years, so I'm not keen on buying anymore of those.

Income dictated minimizing calibers and I am very satisfied I did that. I am happier with less guns and more ammo than I was with more guns and less ammo! Just saying.

I like your train of thought but I add redundancy and spare parts. Must be the OCD in me but I have to have a spare for whatever my favorite is. In my family’s case it is multiple 9mm pistols, most the same manufacturer, and several 357 magnums in the same brand. We only have to worry about two calibers to stock ammo for but if one gun goes down, there’s a spare ready to go.

Is it that time again where the herd stampedes??????? Lets stick our head between our legs and kiss our back side goodbye This really gets old!

I realized long ago that if there is unrest that leads to a currency crisis that factory ammo could become a barter medium so for decades I followed the "shoot one, buy two" rule.

I have a cool dry room in the basement where ammo can last forever, and my stocks constitute a lifetime supply, although I'm not entirely sure whose life that will be,...

I am stocking up on springs and other spare parts, and anybody not stocking up on hi-cap mags is crazy.

I've bought more guns this year than I ever intended to. My daughter pointed out to me that I buy guns that I don't shoot like she buys knives. Good kid....

I've been trying to purchase mostly components and ammunition.

It's hard to do this. It's not unlike choosing the fastest checkout line at the grocery store. Ammo? Reloading components? Lower receivers? Magazines? Where do you focus your limited funds? It's like investing in a 401k-how do I spread out my investments so as to minimize risk and maximize profit?

I've found that, by spreading out what I spend my money on-a few magazines here, some components there, factory ammo here (I almost never buy actual guns anymore-too expensive), that what I actually end up with is an underprepared state in every category.

I've already eliminated all of my competitive shooting, all practice shooting, all professional training, and I've dropped my gun club membership, and still there isn't enough money to fully fund the purchases at the center of this discussion.

Life happens I guess. While reading the comments here motivate me to prepare more for the future, the lean times have already struck. It looks like I'm about as prepared for 2020 as I'm going to be.

I agree it's hard to decide what to stock up on with a budget but I think your strategy of buying a little bit of everything is not bad. I would rather have a little bit of everything as opposed to 10,000pc 124gr 9mm bullets and 2 magazines. The only draw back is you don't get bulk pricing but if the money isn't there it it's there.

I tend to buy a lot of P mags, 80% lower kits for ars and glocks, .22lr and reloading components. Im.... kind of a hoarder of parts and ammo. Someday it might pay off, or my kids and their kids will never have to buy a magazine for an AR or glock.

On the Federal level I don’t see very much, if any concern about the 2020 Presidential election even with the dreaded “I” word so I am going to try to stick to my plan I started after HRH was defeated. I am sort of a “prepper” and believe in “3 is 2, 2 is 1 and 1 is none” so many of my gun purchases have been getting a second gun that matches the one I already own. All in pretty boring except The Lady brought herself a M&P 1.0 a couple of years ago and I brought a M&P Shield as a gift for her this past summer.

The biggest event in my life was becoming a AR cult member of @GunnyUSMC. It has become a expensive addiction. I have already built more than I really need which means some family members will very likely be receiving AR gifts in 2020.

I honestly think I and many on this site have more firearms than we actually need but not all that we want. We're doing much, much better than most in the country. I pretty much have have everything I need other than enough ammo.

Before Sandy Hook, I only owned one handgun and one revolver... Didn't own any rifles, didn't know what an AR15 was even though I seen them before in movies, and didn't have any ammo stashed. By 2014, I had several firearms including an AR. Fast forward to today, I lost count of the firearms off the top of my head, but I do know I have thousands of rounds of ammo saved up. Have a few stripped uppers stashed away too...

The is irony that if it wasn't for Obama and Dems pushing for gun control, I'd probably still only own those two handguns. If it weren't for them, ARs wouldn't have gotten 100x more popular and prices wouldn't have fell to rock bottom. Hopefully history will repeat, and Dems can create hundreds more just like me this election cycle and here in the state of VA.

I have enough hi-cap mags,( I know, I know), so I'm hedging my bets and buying some 10 round mags for several of my guns.

Hard to go wrong with more ammo and mags. Reloading supplies and or equipment to reload your favorite calibers.
