I don't know if I'll use these dies, maybe .. maybe not. I'll have new RCBS ones soon, so - they'll probably be better and I'll use those, but it has been fun to check these ones out. With the old Herter's press, I found a Herter's Case trimmer, a Herter's Powder Scale, and a set of .222 Herter's dies. My
Dad had a .222 from the mid 60s, so - probably ordered the Herter's stuff as a kit I would imagine. I can see him looking through the old catalogs, kind of fun to this about, feels right that I got the Herter's dies, they sort of go with the collection even if they don't get used. The press - definitely going to use.

So after reading this, I’ve got a 2 die set of Pacific dies from the original 1940s C press. I got a chance to take one apart this afternoon and sure enough they have an even more pronounced flare in the seating die. I haven’t used them in about 10 years because I loaded a lot of 38 special and since then haven’t shot it much. I remember they worked well. Since they are steel dies they need case lube but it’s not a problem for single stage loading rates. The bullet loader had a bit of lead shavings built up when I cleaned them last year, so it may not really flare enough to be ideal with lead bullets.
