I always had soft spot in my heart for the 300. My FIL had a Remington 760 in 300 Savage that was a cool little rifle. I took one deer with it. Now I have a really nice Savage 99EG that I got back after Fedex cracked the stock. I had sold it on consignment and shipped it to NY. The Fedex handlers dropped it hard enough to crack the corner of a Plano hard case and split the pistol grip. Got $900 insurance money and got to keep the rifle. I need to find a butt stock for it. Any suggestions?

I, too, have a soft spot for the >300 Sav. Pop's first (and only) deer rifle was a 99 Sav in .300. I used it when I started hunting, and then found a similar in .308 with the tang safety. Both are still in the family. Here's to the .300!!

I am proud of you , our heritage, our roots , are worth way more than a few bucks... pass'em down along with the stories about our father's to those that respect them , and feel like we do , we are rapidly becoming the forefathers ........take care........

Let's hear it for the short action cartridge that could and did for the past 100 years. You're no 30-06 but then again, nothing is. Here's to you!!!
I am glad you reminded me, I ended up with a model 99 savage lever gun a couple years ago, long story short 40 years in the making ....haven't shot it yet, took it out of the safe , oiled it up , its gorgeous, pristine , kind of funny how things work out isn't it , tomorrow's the day , take out the family and tell them about the real life stories and history......of our families model 99.......Take care....and Happy New Year......

I shot a doe Saturday with a Savage Model 45 in .300

75 yards pass through both sides while shearing the top of the heart off. Im hunting from my sweety’s living room today as I hang with the kids who are home from school. I have a stripper clip of 150gr in my pocket and the rifle in the corner just in case Bucky walks through the back yard. Thank you Arthur Savage!!!

My dad's first hunting rifle was a 99 in 300 Savage. Cool gun, and I can find ammo for it in 2020.

The .300 Sav seems to occupy the position of permanent runner-up in the firmament of American born cartridges. So it's nice to see it getting due credit on its birthday. My personal experience is limit because I've had only a few, but one I've this M-99 .300 Savage because it's the most accurate 99 I've ever tested, delivering genuine MOA 5-shot groups with Varget and Sierra 150gr spitzers. (With scope, not current aperture sights.). My other .300 is this Remington 700 BDL. Very few 700's were made in .300 Sav and this one remains still new and unfired, so I expect it is somewhat of a collector's prize.. i have three 300 savage rifles, two remington 722,s and a 700 remington classic(unfired), in a good bolt action the 300 savage can be loaded right up close to the 308.

I have a Savage 99, Remington Model 81, and a Savage Model 45 Super Sporter all in 300 Savage.
Out of all of them, the Model 45 is a laser beam of a rifle. The other two will 1.5-2 MOA but I think I can get the 99 a bit more dialed in with Varget.

I shot my first deer on McGee Creek above Lake Crowley in 1982 with a Savage 99 in 300 Savage. I will always have a soft spot for the Savage 99 and the 300 Savage. Growing up in the 80's and reading a ton of Bob Milek, I did think anyone one hunted with anything other than a Remington 700. I was surprised how many of the old mountain hunters still used the Savage 99. Anyways, cheers to the the 300 with a tall glass of JW Blue!

Hey, my 99 in 300 Savage wants to join the party! He is currently sitting next to an 1899 in 22 Sav HP.
