Rifle and pistol in same caliber

I have done a few. 22lr I think everybody has done without even realizing it. 9mm is nice if you are using a 9mm carbine for light hunting purposes or using a PDW setup. .357 is nice in that a .357 loaded right will be a potent revolver round AND a real solid rifle round. next on the list is going to be different for me though. It’s going to be a rifle round combo, either a 30-30 BFR, 30-30 contender barrel, or 7-30 rifle.

I was lucky enough to snatch up a stainless Marlin in 44mag. when they 1st came out and before Remington bought them.
It's the perfect companion for my 629 Smith.
While I have quite a few rifles including AR's the Marlin is my assault rifle of choice, 10 rounds of 44mag. as fast as I can work the lever.
Only regret is that I didn't buy one in .357 when I had the chance. :(

Forgot about 22's, have a nice Ruger 10/22 to go with a Browning Buckmark but I really need a nice lever gun for my single six. ;)

Why not .45 Colt or .44-40? The folks that first came up with the concept because they needed it used those calibers.
Maybe .32-20 or .38-40, but not .45. Neither the '73 or '92 Winchesters were chambered in .45 Colt.

Even the original Colt Lightnings were not chambered in .45 Colt.

Guess I should mention also, that in addition to the above mentioned 357 and 10mm combos, I also have a S&W 460 magnum revolver, and a Ruger No 1 rifle chambered in 460 magnum.

I thought shooting that cartridge from a rifle would tame the recoil and be fun. It isn’t. But, if I ever need to kill a Buick, I’ve got a good rifle for it.

Well, I guess I started this and now I know that a lot of you like the combinations, for whatever reason. Made me get out my Vaquero .45 Colt yesterday to shoot. My local Cabelas, for some reason, has a glut of Marlin et al .45 Colt rifles in the gun room. I think I favor a .44 Mag rifle and may look for one at the next show. I had not really thought about the fact that I have .22 LR in both handguns and rifles. Duh. Maybe I need a .22 Mag rifle to be a friend to my revolver in the same caliber. Decisions, decisions.

My combo happens to be 44 Mag because when I started Cowboy Action I had a reloading setup for 44 Mag. so I bought a Marlin 1894 & Ruger Vaqueros in 44 Mag
The 357 Mag & 45 Colt combos are in my opinion fine as well but I don't regret my decision. 44 Mag is more powerful than 357 Mag. 45 Colt has to be hand loaded to match 44 Mag factory ammo & many rifles & handguns currently made for 45 Colt cannot handle the pressures of hot 45 Colt loads.
I use the same load for the Marlin carbine & Vaqueros & both are fun to shoot and accurate to what I consider their limits which are 50 yards for the revolvers & 100 for the rifle.
If I were in a situation where I needed a rifle/pistol combo for protection the only change I would make is trade one of my SA revolvers for a DA.

For a while I had a lever gun and SSA clone both in 45 Colt, thought I was going to get into cowboy action shooting, but I didn't and ended up selling it after a year or so

I still have my Ruger MK III and 10-22!

I have a Colt AR and a KelTec PLR-16, both 5.56NATO and take the same mags. Also have a KT RDB to throw in the mix-same cartridge and mags. Also have a T/C Contender and Winchester 94, both in .30-30.

A different mix than the usual lever gun/revolver combos most of us have. Neat

Stay safe.

I have sets in .357, 9mm, .22 lr and .22 WMR but I get the most use out of my .22 Mag set. It just seems to do everything I need really well. The Keltech PMR 30 holds ample rounds for most needs and Ruger M-77 is really accurate. If I was in urban combat the AR-9 and FNP-9 really work well together on action courses.

Had a stainless single six and a savage bolt gun in 22 mag. Couldn't warm up to either of them. For some reason I only like small bore guns in blued. I also had a Rossi 44 mag levergun to go with my 44 mag revolvers, but it wouldn't shoot the same loads my handguns would. I do have a few 22lr sets, and I will be getting another 44 mag rifle since I love the set for camping. I also have an ar15 set pistol and rifle in 458 socom, but that is kinda cheating... Oh, and as soon as the funds are available I am picking up a 357 Henry single shot. Might even become a 357 max...

Own (Various) 9mm autos to correspond/pair with my Marlin Camp 9. (S&W mdl 59 will share mags.)

Own a Glock 22 (.40 cal) to pair up with/share mags with my Kel-Tec Sub2K.

Ruger Super Blackhawk, pairs up with my Ruger .44mag carbine.

Own a .357 mag revolver, would like to have a IMI/IME Timberwolf to pair up with it.

I am sure I am forgetting another combo I probably own.

S&W 686/19/60 and Marlin 1894c, Ruger SR9c and PCC and various .22 pistols/revolvers and rifles. Always liked the combo`s for the reasons already stated so no need to rehash all of that.
Thinking about it though, no combo is my first choice for things that may go bump in the night as I have a 12ga and 9mm immediately available and dedicated for that role. Probably more a fun or utility factor for the combo`s.

Buncha .22 rifles and handguns. Smith and Wesson M29, Marlin 1894. Two Ruger Vaqueros, Marlin 1894 and Cimarron 1866 Replica all .45 Colt. Several 9mm pistols and KelTec Sub 2000.

wgp

I have three single action revolvers, all in .45 Colt. Since I also reload for that cartridge it seemed perfectly logical that I should get a lever action rifle that fired the same cartridge. Only problem was finding one because at the time Marlins and Rossis were in short supply. Finally found one at a gun show that was used but like new in the box. It was a Rossi R92 carbine with a 16" barrel and large loop lever. What made it even sweeter was that I had just bought a Beretta Stampede in .45 Colt at another table! It was like everything fell into place perfectly that day!

I want both of these guns. They give me a strong urge to flag down a stagecoach, and also to gallop my horse and shoot at bad guys with the reins in my teeth, while flipping my Winchester with one hand to reload.

"Fill-your-hand, you son of a liberal!!"
