9mm RP case question

Just noticed a scratch around the neck above the rim on a lot of RP cases while I was checking them. From what I can tell as close as I look at it it's not a crack but still seems odd. Any ideas, first time I noticed this, wish I had some factory ammo to compare. The scratch is just below the Green arrow, and goes all the way around the case.

What kind of reloader are you using... I'm thinking shell plate scratch.

Extractor contact with brass leaves a definite indent similar to shape of extractor, not a scratch around the case rim.

Is the brass new to you?

If so, only on RP brass, not other headstamp brass?

Definitely not an extractor mark, could be the shell plate. I checked several RP case that have been fired four times that have the mark as well without any further damage. I'm gonna check some factory rounds against them.

No, it actually looks like it was done during manufacture. I might split a case just for fun to check it out.

My main stash of factory 9mm is RP... I'll look again, but I don't recall seeing any mark like that.

Extractor marks would be in one place on the rim. Shell holder marks would not go all the way around the case, unless the case is turned while in the holder. Kinda hard to see the exact location on the case; on the body or ion the edge of the extractor groove? New/used brass? I would get some brass without any marks, and go through the entire process; reloading (check after each step) feeding, and shooting...

Just picked up a box of factory Remington and sure enough they have that ring/scratch around them. First time I've noticed it but I guess it's all right, we learn as we go. Thanks guus
