The Game: $300 Carry Gun

. . . people still want $250 for a used Shield. New gets you a warranty
I've noticed periods over the past couple years when asking price for used pistol exceeded retail prices; I find it a bit humorous.

That seems to be correcting itself lately.

Another vote for Walther PPS LE for $299 at Bud's. Great trigger, night sights, and 3 mags for $299. Plus I'm accurate with it.

When a Shield was $400 this makes sense, but at $259-280 for a new one, buying used is tough. I see used LC9s for $200 but people still want $250 for a used Shield. New gets you a warranty

1. Shield M1.0 $249.99 ($199.99 after rebate before Dec 08) at LGS.
2. Canik TP9SF $264.99 (Last Week a Big Box Sports)
3. M&P M2.0 Compact 4" No Safety .40 S&W $299.99 (Few months back at large online retailer)

I don't see them any cheaper used.

Shield 9mm 1st gen is $249 at Palmetto State Armory.

And, Beretta just lowered the price of the APX. If you look at Wikiarms, you can get them for just under $300.

In addition to the ones I mentioned previously...

Whatever the new Ruger that replaced the LC9s Pro is called is probably a pretty good pistol. I got the older version for under $300 earlier this year, and it is excellent.

I would carry it with as much confidence as my Glock 43.

True. Go on Armslist and search Shield or PPS and you will find that no one wants to fly under that $300 mark since they paid more. Then search Shield and PPS for sale and you’ll see plenty of deals new. My LGS had Shields and PPS both for $249 on sale new. I’m not a fan of the current Ruger autos, so I didn’t even look at them. Not that they are inferior, I just don’t like them. I’m a huge fan of the old P series and their revolvers though.

Polish p-64 surplus. I forget the price but it was cheap. All steel, accurate, and nice to shoot AFTER replacing the springs with weaker ones. The drawbacks are weight because it's steel and oddball 9x18 ammo.

I asked a similar question but I don't think I laid the conditions correctly to get what I was looking for.

The Game: $300 Carry Gun

$300 (not including Shipping, Transfer or Taxes)
Condition - New
Caliber - Any
Size - Any

What do you buy?

I got a M&P M2.0 Compact 4" w/ No Safety in .40 S&W for $299.99 a few months back so I guess that's my nomination.
I’m looking at same gun for $335. So even if it’s a bit over that’s my answer

Depends on how little you want to spend on reliability to protect you and your family lives.

If I'm starting from scratch, I'd go for an LCP hands down. Since I already have one of those, it'd be a tossup between a Shield or a Kel-tec P32. I already have a couple Shield sized guns so I'd probably go for the Ket tec.

The much maligned Taurus has shown a turn around, at least in my experience. I don't own a Taurus G2, but have fired three different ones two of them extensively. The trigger you have to get used to. Kind of like the Ruger LCP .380. As far as malfunctions, there have been none, The Taurus TX22 is a wonder. A double column .22 with a sixteen round magazine that is reliable (2200 rounds, one malfunction, probably the ammunition) and accurate. The grip is outstanding. Back to the OP, I think I would look for a Shield in 9MM. Again, you have to get used to the trigger. It's not bad, just different. 9MM is cheap so you'll probably practice more. There are sooo many choices out there. Good Luck.

Hate to break it to you but reliable handguns that cost less than a Wilson Supergrade, Taran Tactical Combat Master or Nighthawk Korth do exist.

You are free to base suitability on cost, I prefer to use other factors.

Just out of curiosity how much is your life worth? Surely an M&P M2.0 compact at only $299.99 wouldn't cost enough. Surely the G22-4 w/ Night Sights NIB for $369.99 wouldn't be satisfactory. Your life is worth more than that. Surely you would value it at $1,000 +? A Nighthawk Korth Skyhawk Revolver is just a bit over that so it might be satisfactory.

In terms of handgun reliability I'd put an 2.0 M&P or newer generation Glock in one of the main service calibers at the top of my list regardless of cost. You can obviously spend a ton more on a handgun but the extra money would go toward things other than improving reliability, in my opinion anyway.

I sometimes carry the Beretta Nano 9mm. Quality made and accurate for a micro 9mm. $219 from PSA.

I also like the Walther PPS LE 9mm for around 3 bills.

I've owned the Bersa Thunder 380 and found it to be a reliable, accurate pistol for about $279 retail.

good luck

Lol, the Nano at that price sure went fast, already out of stock. Actually a good thing as I just bought two more in the past couple of months. 10,000 rds through the first one and still running like brand new.

Prices are about the best I have ever seen them right now. There are almost too many options. I basically have everything I need right now but I find myself wanting to buy just because prices are so good. In all honesty I would be better off using the money to stock up on ammunition but we'll see what happens.

94045.

do you have a link for that g22????

No. It's at Larry's Huntsville/Madison AL.
You can call and see if they transfer.
It's a Police Trade but it was Unissued New in the Box they got a bunch of G22 / G27 / G30 and G36 from Glock like that. The NS Models are only $20 Extra so they are well worth it (if only for steel sights). The one I examined seemed to have excellent sight life left.
