Virginia's next move

The cost to enforce these laws is the angle to get non-gun people onboard with the fight. Maybe the average guy doesn't care if the state has set its sights on crushing the 2A, but I bet it might interest them to know how it'll affect their wallet.

Grass roots update:

Went to my FOP meeting last night and on my motion got a unanimous vote to send $500 to VCDL. (As an aside last month we spent $5100 on shop with cop, and gave $500 in scholarships to an inner city day care.- Our fundraisers are fun and profitable)

Boss has had good response for the bus he sponsored to leave from the store on Jan 20 and will add a second bus. This one will be For guys eligible under the following guidlines.
All customer are asked if Going on Jan 20 if yes, we sell them a ticket if no, because "I can't afford it" we are instructed to say let me see if we can help, and send them to boss. If he determines they are real - they get a free bus ticket.

Last week's store donations topped $800 - again small change and bills
As of the last count 38 states have sent money and and A bunch of out of state people are committed to attend.
A Richmond area RV park will give free space to any RV that shows A valid VCDl membership card.

A very rich girlfriend of Cyndi's gave $500 in memory of her dad. ( that showed the value of blasting out pleas to Facebook and phone contacts.

The petition to recall Red Ralph is up to 80K signatures.

Virginia beach mayor Bob Dyer got the city council to vote VB a 2nd Amendment sanctuary city. He has already talked about running for Gov.( Bob is an marine Iraqi war vet and a no nonsense guy.

Activism with ^^^ teeth I like it. Good job:thumbup:

Teeth made up of , tooth'sz hehe.

Incisor - calling Reps

Sadly its only a baby bite.

The big bite comes from lawsuits and going to SCOTUS. Thats the only thing Democrats understand.

Thats what takes and needs the dollars the most!

As Robert said, some of you have gotten way off the original topic of what can be done to help VA.

I've done some pruning of this bush and more is to be done. If you want to discuss all the prefiled bills in VA (remember that prefiled hasn't even cleared the lowest hurdle for committee assignment and that has to happen before it starts to then be assigned for review by other committees, then pass out of each relevant committee, which is before a vote can even get to the floor) you'll find another thread somewhere with them lumped into it.

Stick to this topic on the ongoing and upcoming activism effort in VA and if you feel the urge to drift off onto some tangent take a breath, copy your post and then start a new thread in the appropriate place with it.

So what can we really do to help?

Do they have enough money to fight these cases in our courts? Who will be filing these case? Besides writing our politicians. What else can really be done?

I and my family living in Virginia would rather send the money directly to the law firm handling the cases and pay their bill. We don’t want our money going to pay overhead. it’s one of the reasons We Don’t donate money to the Red Cross and other organizations, but we donate product, or help pay certain bills and other items so it won’t go to pay overhead. Example, more then half of every dollar donated to Red Cross goes to pay overhead.

Anyone have any links to how the VCDL and GOA are spending the donations they are receiving? NRA sadly wastes a lot of the money donated on overhead.

After Jan 20th Lobby day, which my family in Va will be attending, and writing to our politicians, and continuing to Vote republican. What else can be done?

When these laws are passed, what is the VCDL, GOA and other recommending what we do with our now illegal gun items. Are they recommending we register them, or what?

I here In Texas will be taking possession of a few of the NFA items that they currently have. Thankfully we are all on the same Gun Trust, so easy enough to transfer. The proper travel forms for the ATF have been filled out for frequent travel back n forth between Va and Texas So no worries there. However, should I take possession of the rest of my families firearms? All of which apparently will have to either be registered or disposed of. That won’t leave them with much protection against the wild animals, of both the 2 and 4 legged type.

Is there anyone that can help those that might get arrested and their guns confiscated during the time it takes the courts to overrule the laws?

My family in Virginia needs real answers.

I am watching this very carefully, since, no matter what happens, I will be directly affected.

AFAIK, none of the pre-filed bills specifically cover NFA items (except maybe suppressors). Therefore, we could very well have the anomalous situation in which machine guns would be legal, but semiautomatics would not. (SBRs would be treated like any other semiautomatic rifles, in terms of a ban.) Magazines are a different story. A flat ban on magazines would turn MGs into wall hangers.

We won't know what to do until we get a better idea of what's coming out of the legislature. It could range from nothing all the way to a wholesale relocation of guns to another state.

TGF,
I recommend donating directly to VCDL, using their web site at vcdl.org. They (we; I have been a member for years) have a totally volunteer-run organization, with no leased offices; everything is run by the volunteers from their homes. The best statement on this topic, and how frugal the VCDL is is from President Philip Van Cleve during his online interview with GOA's John Crump on Fireside Chat #47 on Youtube that took place on January 8, 2020.
When sending money, you can say it is for the legal defense activities, but I prefer just open donation. VCDL has several cooperating law firms and I am not sure how easy it would be to send money directly to one or more, depending on how they have split up the work.

Also, if you have not done so already, please subscribe to the VA Alert, at least until we get through the bulk of the current mess. That will keep you abreast of all the latest plans, including if there are last minute changes on carry options at the Capitol. You can un-subscribe at any time, and VCDL shares the mailing list with no one else.

Thank you for the support from Texas and your family in Virginia.

Alexander,
Once the legislature gets organized and VCDL volunteers have time to analyze the bills and track status, there will be a 2020 Leg. Tracker link on the VCDL Home Page in the drop down list under VA Politics. For an idea of how complete the tracker pages will be, you can look at last year's 2019 Leg. Tracker page.
UPDATE 1/13/2020
THe 2020 Legislative Tracker is now available:

Thank you for taking the time to address our concerns. It is appreciated. I will be passing that information along to my family in Virginia. They are not planning on going inside the Capitol building because they don’t want to have to worry about those rules currently.

We really do want to help those that might get arrested in the future, and also with the cost it will require to fight those laws in the court. I feel confident that we will win these cases, but as you well know, I know that these cases will take 3-5 years for a resolution.

What happened on Monday 1/13/20

Update on VA gun control bills and NEW batch of gun control bills.

1/14/20 - Virginia 2A Update: Gun Range Ban, New AWB, & Hot Mics

Yep all passed while there 3,000 plus people outside protesting from what I heard. So could be wrong.
If that’s the case, They are showing us they aren’t backing down. Sure they weakened some of the bills. Big deal. They pass these now, get us used to it, then push the rest later.

Maybe next year even....

If they pass any at all it’s unsatisfactory and is NOT a win in any form. This Binary. We either win or we have lost. It’s just like a football game, doesn’t matter if the score was 21-20, or 21-0 you still lost and you ain’t going to the super bowl.

So is everyone in Virginia really ready to put up with these laws for the next minimum of 3 years to maybe as long as 10 years?

Once again, VA history making has started. Gun owners' stand for gun rights/2A will start in VA.

Every gun owner and future gun owners now must vote out anti gun law makers and vote in pro gun law makers on every election if they want to keep their guns.

Period.

Believe me, gun rights will be one of front and center issues for 2020 election debates.

Time to choose sides. I stand with Virginians and gun owners. Donate money to VCDL now and save up more money to fund our legal battle when/if these bills become laws.

And we need to keep packing federal courts and SCOTUS with pro gun/2A judges.

I expect that there will be attempts to get an injunction on anything that requires turning anything in while the courts decide what is and isn't constitutional.

Since VA has had falling homicide rates for the past 3 years the question becomes other than the Anti philosiphical ones are there any practical reasons that this push to ban or restrict firearms is taking place? Prior to the election violent crime was dropping so why interrupt that trend if not for the Anti philosophy that all guns are bad (yes, that's a rhetorical question).

As many others have said, the push to ban or restrict firearms (infringement) has nothing to do with homicide rates. It's about controlling the citizenry.

The push for gun control is all about the politicians pandering to the Susie Soccer Moms. In suburban areas like northern Virginia, that's the only explanation that is needed. They've carefully focus-group tested this approach, and it works for them. No need to delve into conspiracy theories.

I agree, we all have to vote republican, not Democrat. However, some areas of the country as well as Virginia being one, have a much much higher level of registered Democrat voters then republicans.

We will still vote republican, but Virginia will probably remain a blue state in 2020.

hopefully though we can keep our majority in the Senate, Keep Trump, and if we can win at least 21 additional seats in the house. If we can do that, then we conservatives will have the power in the house, the senate, the president, and with SCOTUS.

If that happens, then in effect with the help of the federal legislature, they can make these laws and other laws in other states get repealed with a simple new gun act, clarifying that these laws can’t be passed etc...

Without that happening sadly, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, Virginia is going to experience the next 3 year minimum, to as long as 10 years with unconstitutional gun laws that they will have to live with, and won’t be able to do anything about. Expect several hundred to get arrested and go to jail if not more. Expect the courts to be flooded with cases and appeals. Just something Virginia is going to have to live with until SCOTUS rules. Because as long as there are more registered Democrats then republicans.... the Democrats will remain in control.

Even if you do manage to elect republicans and get a few out of office, remember to repeal the state law will require the republicans be a majority in the house, the senate, and as governor as well. If any one of them is Democrat, it will stop a bill from passing.

don’t expect to change the mind of a Democrat politician. If they go against their party they will loose campaign funds. So they won’t do that.

My other suggestion is to study American history and see what we have done in the past. Who did what when and how. Understand how the civil war started, what and how and where the revolution started. How and why dis the war of 1812 start as well.

Once you understand that, the answer is clear what must be done and when.
Not all THR members have the time nor the energy to do all that. Your last post was like telling someone the answer they are looking for is somewhere inside the Encyclopedia and they should start reading.

If you want to be beneficial to THR members (That's why we are here in "Activism, ..." category instead of "General ..."), how about giving us the condensed version and jump right to what conclusions THR members should reach?

If you just want to be philosophical and post your opinion, this is not the correct category of THR.

TIA
