The Game: $300 Carry Gun

Kahr CM9 is going for $235 right now, excellent CC firearm. The one thing that gets under my skin about it is that it only comes with one mag.
That’s why it’s 235. Keep cost low for those only wanting 1 mag. If had 2 would cost 265, still a good price. Be happy about it

When I bought mine I bought a package from Buds that came with a second magazine & a holster that I don't use. Yes, I payed a higher price but I wanted a spare magazine.

Really?

There are a lot of perfectly serviceable, perfectly reliable pistols in that price range.
Totally agree. I've owned two Shield 9s over a period of 4 years and both were 100% reliable through @1000 rounds of different brands factory ammo. I sold the first one and regretted it and bought another 1.0 to replace it when they went down in price. I've got a Sig P226 9 Legion I paid $1100 for and it's been equally reliable through 5000 rounds. Inexpensive doesn't always equal "cheap."

Prices are about the best I have ever seen them right now. There are almost too many options. I basically have everything I need right now but I find myself wanting to buy just because prices are so good. In all honesty I would be better off using the money to stock up on ammunition but we'll see what happens.

One reason to buy aside from the cheap prices, is you never know what crazy law will limit your choices or make them unaffordable through special taxes in the no so distant future. I guess the same could be said for ammo though.
With guns maybe the wise approach is to get what you need now but also you think you will need in the future. For example, I might develop arthritis years from now so maybe it would be good to get something like a 380EZ and save it for later.
Also, availability of parts in the future is a consideration for a gun intended to be used long term.

Local deals. Used unfired Kahr K40. - $300. Sig CPO P229 .40 not fired by new owner. $300. It can be done.

IMHO, buying a new gun is often a lot like buying a new car: a luxury for either the rich or thoughtless. The world is brimming with folks who bought a cool looking Tupperware pistol and got bored before finishing the second box of ammo.

Was the former owner bored?
Or is there something wrong with the gun?

How will you know?
It's a chance you take.

There's no guarantees on anything... but you don't have to take that chance if you buy new. Going that route isn't necessarily wasteful nor thoughtless IMHO. On topic - my answer is a Shield in the caliber of your choice.

Also, BP9cc Bersa on sale at Buds for $259. I loved this pistol, but preferred the PPS, but the Bersa was/is a fine handgun.

Taurus G2C for waaaayyyyy under 3 bills

Ruger American at cdnnsports for 299.00 FS or compact - heavy but Ruger reliable

Walther PPS M2 9mm, can be had between $250-$289. Great gun that almost shoots like a full size gun. Federal HST 147 are tips thru it

Probably the Beretta APX would be first choice. I liked how those things feel anyway.
Second choice the S&W M&P 2.0 Compact.
Third Ruger SR9C.

A year ago I picked up a Ruger EC9, 9mm Luger only, at Bimart here in Oregon for $199 NIB. Besides the genuine Ruger mag, I'm able to use Pro-mag 7 rnd magazines. Only $18 when available. Best deal ever for me. I just wish the trigger reset wasn't so far forward.

The Beretta APX as the Compact or Centurion model is the best deal on the market IMHO... I like and shoot it so well that I started carrying it as well as purchased the full size. This coming from someone who owns Glocks, CZs, M&P 2.0s, M&P Shields in multiple calibers, Walther PPS M2, XDs, Kahrs, Taurus es,a Rugers, Sigs, and well over a dozen other pistols...

The trigger on a Taurus G2 failed to reset a couple of times so I retired it. It’s replacement is this Ruger LC9s Pro. About $275. Great trigger and no safety. I love it.

I couldn't tell you how many of those I have that came with guns. They tend to come with some crappy fobus knock-off paddle holster that wont turn the gun loose.

I don't remember who the manufacturer is it is one of those IWB/OWB minimalist type leather deals. It has a metal belt clip in the middle & a couple of belt slots on each side. Is not molded & will collapse once you pull the gun out of it. But I wanted a second mag & it was a better deal than buying it separately.
