I’m posting this sitting in a local Walmart, Englewood Florida, Subway shop. Been following the thread “Mouse Guns” all morning. Needed to get something done so headed out to the local for some food shopping. Waiting in line to check, took a quick look at the thread to see what was new. Phone tells me can’t access the server. Put the phone away, check out, go into the sandwich shop, get the sub. Decided to take another look at the forum thread. Can’t connect. Suspicious now, I type in GunBroker, no connection. Type in daily mail, numerous hits. Go to settings, tell the phone to forget Walmart WiFi, make sure my phones on cellular and now I’m back on the High Road.
This kinda blows me away. Has a major corporation like Walmart reached a point they will actually try and control your internet use.
I’m in a pretty rural area and it’s Walmart for most merchandise or a twenty mile drive to Target.

It's their wifi so they can limit what they want. I never tried it in Wmart but some places block certain sites like guns, porn ect. Other businesses are wide open. I was in the hospital visiting my MIL last week and I could access all the gun sites I go to. I was surprised as this is a large university associated teaching hospital. I wouldn't let it bother you as you said you can just bypass the wifi.

We use Total Wireless for cell service for family shared plan of 3 lines for $80 with 60GB of data at 4G LTE.

With Motorola G7 phones, I tether my Chromebook when I am away from home and don't bother to use any public wifi as even with Youtube/Amazon Prime videos/movies streaming and web browsing, we have yet to go over 20-25 GB of data.

Haven’t been in a walmart in probably 20 yrs,, except to pick up script for a friend,,,don’t like going in there then even. Fortunately we have Meijer’s.......For WiFi, I usually just go thru my cellphone,,, otherwise, my local library has WiFi,,,nicely,,,, lots of free wi if out there if you look, and I’ve found so many ‘safe’ ones,,,,,

I’m doing all I can to stay away.
I started my boycott of Walmart last year when Walmart changed their ammunition sales policy.

I used to do most of my shopping there because it was so close to home but now, I only buy a few things there as I am shopping mostly from their competitors (Amazon, Fred Meyers, etc. with significant cost savings - Yes, Walmart does not have the lowest prices) and quality/selection of their produce is meh.

Monthly, I am averaging $150-$200+ savings by shopping with Walmart's competitors (Especially with Prime Reward Card) and using that money for shooting/reloading and adding to our ongoing PIF fund.

It would take effort, miles of driving and more dollars for me to quit shopping at Walmart, here in South West Florida. In Rhode Island there are numerous ways around them. I had checked out their Ammo counter last week, last season it was well stocked with rifle, hand gun and shot shells, now no hand gun. Except 22’s. That’s ok with me Ammo is all internet orders or gun shows now.
I’ve been frequenting this store for 16 years now and today was the first I noticed the wi-fi restrictions. Guess I’m a little naive on politics.

It’s way worse than you could ever imagine. I used to believe the nightly news and thought companies just tried to make money. Everybody has a really stinky agenda now.:cuss:

Yep, shop at the small businesses around your home. I try and give another, much-smaller grocery much of my business. That said, I live in an area of the country where Walmart is everywhere and they are so dang convenient. If corporate Walmart wants to control their wifi and not sell some types of ammo, etc., fine. That said, it's easy for me to shop other places too...

In my life I've bought new cars from 3 dealerships.GMC, Dodge/Jeep (which I spent an asinine amount of time..... ) and Toyota/Subaru (wifes car) All of them block this and many other websites. I'm not surprised.

Corporate blocking in their stores is only the beginning.

With the end of Net Neutrality, the day will come soon when you will have to pay your IP extra to access what they deem dangerous\obscene sites FROM HOME!

"Ok, Mr. Smith, I see you have signed up for the Subversive Weapons and Pornography package, that will be $700/ a month......"
