I know that many people will say, "Aaaa, there's always something you'll want or need" but I am really a purpose driven gun owner, every gun I buy gets used and it has to have a purpose to be purchased. I used to shoot and hunt with my dad a lot but after being in the Marines really fell out of shooting guns for fun like I used to. I don't mind popping off a few rounds but just shooting for the sake of shooting isn't fun for me and I've never been a collector of anything.

I really only enjoy shooting at my house because it's convenient, I hate having to drive to gun ranges and waiting on firing lines, so being able to shoot at my house is nice. Nowadays I only shoot when I'm sighting in for hunting or hunting. If it's warm enough to shoot then I'd rather be fishing.

I do have 2 very young children so when they get older perhaps I will get back into shooting.

When I say my guns are purpose driven it means everything I own (except 2 guns) are all solely bought for a purpose and to be used. I have a bolt action rifle, bolt action shotgun, and muzzle loader (3 other muzzleloaders that no longer work but probably only need a good cleaning) for deer hunting. I have a semi-auto shotgun for bird hunting, I have an two AR15s for self-defense/varmint hunting, a .22 single action pistol for plinking/varmints, and two 9mm semi-auto's for concealed carry and home defense. The 2 guns that are not purpose driven were gifts from my father, an 8" factory Magna ported blued Colt Python and a 6.5 with a Fajen stock. Those don't get used, everything else does.

I just completed my collection yesterday with the purchase of a S&W 629 pre-lock .44 mag Mountain Gun for deer hunting and backup against bears when bow hunting. I also own no wood stocked guns besides the Fajen. I've always preferred the look of Stainless and composite stocks and for me form follows function, they just have a much better chance of not rusting or putting a dent in the stock when dropped.

I have no need or desire for any other guns.

Has anyone else completed their Gun Collection?

I do expect to have to purchase some guns more as my kids get older and I gladly will do that as I hope they take up hunting, shooting, fishing, and the outdoors.

Have more than I need, am looking to cut back but won't say I'm not keeping my eyes open. I hunt deer on my property in Illinois so my 220 Savage, my bow, and either my three screw 44 or my 45 Blackhawk takes care of that. Doves, an Ithaca 100 20.
Throw in a built up 10-22 bull barrel and a CZ455 and targets and squirrels are done. A couple ccw guns, my trap and skeet shotguns and I'm good. Too many years working in gun shops left me with a few "gee, it would be cool to have that".
My time left is shrinking rapidly. I'm setting a schedule on what I want to shoot, and what loads I want to develop, but in Illinois there isn't much need for .243, 308, 30-06, 223, 222, or a few others.
Like my niece, "I'm going to hold off on getting any more books until, oh look, there's a new ".
Like the minty 311 20 gauge I snagged last month.
Too many wants, too little time.

It took me a long time to narrow my focus from "Oooooh, shiny!" to "Hmm, I just need a nice example of XYZ gun and life is good."

Im really happy with what Ive got now, most are lookers, all are shooters, all reliable enough for their respective purposes, all fun.

Id still like to snag a HK P7, maybe a Sig P210 and those new Pythons are mighty tempting......but otherwise, Im good.

I have the opposite problem. I have more guns than I want or need, and my wife won't let me sell any. She likes the security of having them in the house, and wants me to be able to pass them down to kids and grandkids.

There are two nice 30-06s in the safe, which I probably won't ever shoot again. I've since acquired a 600 308 and a 7x57, either of which I'd use before the 06s. At one time I was all excited about turkey hunting. Then someone told me wild turkey is nowhere near as tasty as domestic. So neither of my shotguns has been out in years. My all-matching $150 1954 Tula SKS used to cost $.08 per round to shoot. Even though it wasn't super accurate, it was fun. But no more. It's now too valuable and ammo is too expensive to put much wear on it.

I said I would not buy any more guns as I had enough and than I ended up buying a Sharps 45/70, a Springfield 911 and just received yesterday my 10mm TRP long slide by Springfield. I'm not playing this game anymore as I see I can go down the rabbit hole quickly.

Had an early model HK P7 but found it just wasn't "all that" to me. Same with an HK P9. Would definitely be interested in a SIG P210, a new Colt Python (or maybe a Colt King Cobra Target), a Colt SAA, and maybe once more around the block with a Colt Gold Cup.

So I'm far from completing my gun collection, at least anytime soon!

Almost to that point where I've been able to acquire everything on the grail list. Finding some of them has taken close to 40 years of searching. Recently picked up a Wilson Supergrade that's been buzzing in my mind for over 15 years. Overall pretty happy with what I have.

Still looking for an Artillery Luger and an original Winchester 52 with stainless steel barrel (very few made). Then I'm done.

I will never stop buying guns. I do not “collect” them. I buy each for a purpose. If it fills that purpose I will keep it. If not, it goes. Even if that purpose is “Ooh this is cool, I want one.” That is it’s purpose, to fill a need.

I too have said that I don’t “need” any more guns. In due time I modified my thinking. The funny part is, all the guns I had at that time, half of them are gone now. Replaced by others.

Nope. I don’t have all the guns I want or need. Never will. Tastes change. Things change. Needs change.

I'm pretty much satisfied with my small collection. Mine is based on the calibers I like to shoot. First was .357 mag.,then .45 A.C.P., .30-30 Winchester, and my newest one 9 mm. The only one left is .30-06(a CMP Garand) When that is bought, my collection will be complete.

Who has completed their Gun Collection? - No more guns to buy
My gun "collection" is a practical one as they are in calibers I actually enjoy shooting on a regular basis.

So for retirement, I had designated certain guns in .22LR, 380Auto, 9mm, 40S&W, 45ACP. .223/5.56, .300 BLK, .308 but my medical diagnosis of spinal stenosis took me to retirement early. And I bought GSG 1911 and Ruger 10/22 Collector #3 as retirement present to finish out my collection for retirement along with more 18" .223 Wylde AR builds with purchase of CMMG 22LR conversion kits to shoot in my ARs.

So at this point, I don't "need" to buy anymore guns but as usual, if I come across a killer deal or a gun I have wanted for a long time (but couldn't find one), I may buy it.

I had thought of getting .357 Mag revolver (S&W 686) and lever action also but due to medical issues and aging parents' medical issues, decided to focus on semi-auto calibers only as I reload for all calibers.

I'm to the point now (next year is my 40th) where I have only one gun left, a 16 gauge over/under or a 16 gauge SxS. Outside of that, money is going to tournaments and hunting trips.

I found myself wanting to do the same thing. Making up new loads is fun & a challenge.

I have no need or desire for any other guns.

Has anyone else completed their Gun Collection?

I'm an old man now and have spent the better part of my life "completing" my gun collection. It is complete for all practical and impractical purposes but I will always nurture a desire for yet another gun. Those who profess having a serious interest in guns but think they have "enough" and will never want (or "need") another one aren't old enough yet to think clearly...;) You'll see-mark my words.

I am long over Got To Have Affliction!
Have not acquired a new to me firearm in several years. On the other hand I'm in the process of selling, thus reducing the collection down to what I consider essentials.
