I’ve been seeing some crazy good prices on both of these guns, both the compact and full size models. I’ve seen them anywhere from $249 to $280. I’m thinking of picking one up and am considering a compact because I don’t own a double stack compact 9mm at the moment.

I’m leaning toward the Security 9 just because I prefer a gun with a hammer (although it seems like a weird hammer/striker hybrid) but I’m curious if there are any strong reasons to choose the SR9 instead?

I think the SR9c is a better design along with it's build quality versus the Security 9. I have had an SR9c for a number of years now and it's been a very solid performer, still having one of the best striker-fired triggers I have ever come across. The ergonomics are great as are the sights and the gun just feels "right" in my hand. I have looked at the Security 9 on a number of occasions and while it seems to be okay, it just gave me the feeling that it was made to a certain price point. Kind of like design-wise this was some sort of "economy" version of a compact 9mm. that Ruger came up with. Nothing wrong with that in today's market just that it didn't do anything for me.

If given a choice between the two for the same price, I would go with the SR9c.

I believe that the SR is a better bargain - it’s really the equal of pistols costing twice as much.

SR9C is a higher line pistol. It's the better value at the current prices. But at the very least get them in your hand and dry fire them both. Better yet rent them at a range and fire both. Just because ones a Toyota and the others a Lexus doesn't mean you won't prefer the Toyota.

I believe the SR9c has a magazine safety and the Security 9 does not.
I have never owned either gun & I dislike the magazine disconnect safety on the SR9c. I did shoot an early full sized SR9 at a rental range a long time ago. I would pick the SR9c between those two. If one digs around a bit they could probably find a Ruger American Pistol reasonably priced also. Just looking at an online article about the Security 9 the way it is made reminds me too much of the old Kel-Tec P-11 I used to have. It was okay & I never had a problem but I believe the SR9c would be stronger & more durable than the Security 9. I am actually finding myself tempted by the SR 9c now & I kind of told myself I would never buy a SR series gun.

I've owned SR and handled the Security 9. I feel like the Security ergos and handling is like a budget Glock.

I think the SR has better fit and finish and a better trigger. Feels better in my hands.

SR9c is a great all around platform. Full size are nice and thin. I'd go SR with little doubt.

I made the decision to get a Security 9 a little over a year ago, before the prices of the SR 9’s got so low. The Security 9 felt much better to me. But I also don’t shoot hundreds of rounds per month. The SR9 would be hard to pass up at current prices.

A lot of post lately about he SR9. Love mine. Have had it since they first came out. Rugged, dependable, mild shooting.

If I was looking to buy a cheap, but good polymer 9mm today, the SR9 would be high on the list, up there with the Beretta Px4. I know Dennis Prisby loved the American pistol and believed it to be superior to the SR9, but I'm not seeing complaints of failures with the SR9's due to wear. The typical Joe isn't going to wear one out with general shooting for decades.

The Security 9 is basically a compact double stack LCP II that's the same size as a Glock 19. That's a popular size, everybody loves the size of a G19, but the SR is more proven and likely more durable.

I still get a laugh out of seeing the Glock style trigger on everything now. Even Kimber sells a pistol with a Glock style trigger.

I can't knock the Security 9 as I've never shot one.

All I can say is that after buying a sr9c and taking it to the range and my wife and me putting 200 rounds we were so impressed we decided to get another one for $249. Love my glock 19. But damn if the SR9c just didnt feel and shoot better then the other 9mm handguns we had.

Im hoping to get a Sr40 or 45 next.

Jeb, I’m jot here to argue that the SR9 isn’t superior in build quality to the S9, but I’d like to know where your pictures came from. That is not the S9 frame. No idea how you have a photo that has a frame like that. Also, your photo of a SR9 Compact barrel (which is 1/2” shorter than the S9 barrel), doesn’t quite add up.

The Pic of comparison was clipped from a Youtube video where a the reviewer was comparing both guns side by side. It is the security 9 frame. What appears to be hollow in the frame is some kind of reflection. If I can find it for you I will post later.
Actually here is the video. Note the SR9 barrel is about a ounce heavier.

Thanks for the reference. That is the S9 but that pic or reflection is wired. The barrel comparison is of a full size SR, not the compact, which makes more sense.

I have both, cannot get used to the Sec 9 trigger put many many rounds thru it trying to get used to the trigger, put a Galloway trigger kit in it still couldn't get used to a trigger that doesn't have a breaking point. Put it the safe and bought a SR9 so far I have put over 1500 rds thru it liked it so much I bought a second one, plus it holds 2 more rounds, carry it everyday. The black nitride finish holds up very well.
