Who has completed their Gun Collection? - No more guns to buy

All you “addicts” make me feel better. All my safes & cabinets are full, so my accumulation is complete - for now.

I intend to thin out the accumulation and just keep the favorites, but with current prices it’s a buyers market.

I've told this story a bunch of times but as briefly as possible I went through the collector phase twice and I ended up dumping every thing at a loss twice and starting over.

When I started over I had a plan and after some refinement I stuck to it.

I currently have a Glock 19 and a Glock 26 and a Ruger LC9 that I inherited from my wife when she bought her Glock 43. I carry the LC9 when I can't get away with anything bigger which only happens once or twice a year.

I would like to sell the Ruger and buy a Glock 43 for standardization but I think I'd be better off just picking up 6 more magazines for it and going from there

Wow. That's crazy.

I couldn't imagine getting rid of all of my guns and starting over.

Ironically I thought about this recently if their was a house fire and everything was lost because of the fires in Australia.

I turned 69 today. In the past maybe 5-8 years I’ve sold off most of my guns. As in the OP, most everything I have now is purpose driven. A (not multiple) really, really nice deer rifle. A turkey gun. Two varmint rifles for prairie dogs. A really accurate.22 with a high end scope

I just figured my safe was full of guns that I wouldn’t use whether I was going to the range or hunting. I suppose there was a reason to own them, but I couldn’t figure what it was.

I actually started a thread awhile ago about downsizing your collection once you reached a certain age.

Even if your kids like guns, unless they want your entire collection they are gonna have to sell some and that can be a lot of work.

Look at Jay Leno, I think he owns over 300 cars. That's a lot of cars to liquidate and if you don't know the value you could lose a lot.

I'm pretty much satisfied with my small collection. Mine is based on the calibers I like to shoot. First was .357 mag.,then .45 A.C.P., .30-30 Winchester, and my newest one 9 mm. The only one left is .30-06(a CMP Garand) When that is bought, my collection will be complete.
This is how I started and my thinking was similar to you. The one thing that has evaded me has been the Garand. I've had opportunities but have never been willing to pay the asking price they were asking than.

I'm with Huntsman. Maybe if something piques my interest, I'll bite but not really looking for anything else.

Time will tell.

I have 2 I need to swap out then I am done. So close but the light is still shining at the end of the tunnel.

I know that many people will say, "Aaaa, there's always something you'll want or need" but I am really a purpose driven gun owner, every gun I buy gets used and it has to have a purpose to be purchased.

I have the same outlook on firearms. I have decided that my inventory will be of an arbitrary size, and I'm almost there. When I've reached critical mass and I decide to acquire another firearm, I will first have to sell one off to make room for the new one.

I think I am close because I find myself wanting to buy more ammunition instead of more firearms. :D

Similarly, I am stocking up on components and 22LR ammo.

Actually I really need to get rid of some guns. The only problem is I have too much ammo for them. Gotta shoot it up before selling?

There’s always one more too be had! For some reason I always find it!
So true so true :what: with Ruger coming out with the new 5.7X28 I now want this pistol. Was never interested in the FN as I already own the FNX tactical, now I want one. I'm gonna wait a while though and let the kinks be worked out like it was done with the Kel-Tec PMR 30. I await anxiously.

I have all the 'using' guns I need/want. Defense oriented and hunting. Probably more than I really can use, but it's nice to have options.

I collect semi-automatic pistols of the Art Deco period chambered in .32 ACP (9mm Browning). I have - uh - several of those, but I do not have a full set of the Savage variations. Or any Webleys.
I also collect WWI infantry rifles. I have a good selection of those, but not all.
However, the items in the collections are getting harder and harder to find. So I have slowed down. Still looking for a decent shootable Lebel M1886.

And I'm practically seventy years of age. Not dead, but closer than I was yesterday. I do not want to leave a mess for my heirs, so I'm working on heirlooms and other profitable disposal methods.

Uh, huh. That's why I don't have a wife.

Yeah, that's the reason...………….

I figure as long as I'm lying to myself I should keep it going.

I have!

That's what I tell myself, and that's what my bank account screams at me...

However... I know there's going to be another. Somewhere, somehow, something will pop up, and I will just have to figure out a way to get it. Lately, it's been through trades, but I'm running out of guns I don't mind parting with...

For now, though, the safes are full and my finances are pleading with me to take a breather. So, I have completed my collection.

For now...

I keeping thinking my collection is good "BUT" I still run across a firearm sometimes and think I want that . Just last week saw a Ross rifle on a auction sight and thought what the heck and threw out a low max bid and won it ! So got a new project coming in the mail this week . My safe is getting full and been thinking either buy another one or buy a bigger one and sell old one . I also did something which I think is a good idea on lots of things , I have my logbook with my reload data and a list of all my firearms serial numbers wrote in it and in the margin the value of each firearm . It's so my wife and family know what the got after I die .

I look, and will buy - although, my standards of what I'm willing to acquire at what price have gone up since I have kind of filled out what I think of as functional needs.

I have only 3 "unicorn" guns to find for my collection and am unlikely to find two of them so I might buy or trade one a year.

They have my sincere sympathy. Boo Hoo...o_O
Nope, some of us are on the severe downside of life..................minimizing things will make it easier for those who come after to settle things.......

How many times have we seen those threads about about someone inheriting some guns who know nothing but they want values so they can sell them?
