4CE6E626-F1DD-4878-874A-3A364428FA47.jpeg I’m a 100% revolver fan, and if I’m being honest part of the reason is that I’m too lazy to deal with magazines. But last weekend, I tried a semiauto that really impressed me: the S&W M&P9 EZ. The reason? The mag has a tab that pokes out the side which you can use to depress the follower. The rounds fall right in, no sore thumbs!

This one feature alone has me seriously considering getting one of these (like I said... lazy). Any other semis have this feature? Can you get it on other M&P models?

Thanks

That button looks small and likely work better with an adapter.

It isn't that small. My wife has severe arthritis and she had no issue using her whole thumb to pull down the notch to load the magazines. And if you are going through the expense of an adapter, might as well get a Magpul uplula to load magazines.

I've only ever used those types of mags on .22LR's, but I've found that depressing the button makes my thumb MORE sore than just loading a normal mag. Like I said though I've only used that type of button on .22's so I don't know if they're sprung more than a centerfire mag or not.

The only other center-fire semi I can think of is the 380 EZ which is basically what you shot but a 380 ACP. Most 22lr semis I've handled have magazines like that.

GSG 1911 (Same as Sig 1911) 22LR magazines have the button.

Just pulling down the button and dropping in the rounds makes reloading easy and fast.

The mags for the Beretta Neos have a handy tab on them. The tab is a good size too and the mags themselves are very well made.

Uplula/Magula are great. The Glock 21 and Hellcat thirteen round magazines are sturdy magazines. They also are Bear to load fully.. No problem with Uplula. Also you can jam up a TX22 magazine if you get a rim behind the round below. This happens with Ruger magazines also. It doesn't happen with the rimfire loader. I'm sold on these loaders..

Click on the link that JTQ posted above then scroll down to watch a short video on how the Uplula works. It works on single stack and double stack magazines and I think it’s easier than the little buttons on the sides of magazines.

The only magazines I have encountered with loading buttons were .22 semiautomatics like the Ruger Mark pistols, the S&W 22S or 22A.

Loading centerfire magazines without a Maglula / Uplula is like digging a 50-gallon hole in the ground with a shovel instead of a backhoe. I'm amazed at how many people don't know they exist, or don't have one (or more). :)

I agree, yet for whatever reason I rarely use my uplula.

Never had too much issue with sore thumbs unless it's an extended range day. My usual 100-200 round sessions go fine without.

Dumb question but that little cut out at the bottom of the channel can you slide the tab on the follower into it and lock it in the bottom position and just drop rounds in there?

Does the little button slide over into that lower notch to keep the follower down?
Edit- duh.. shudda read the post right above this one. OC beat me to it!

I'm thinking about getting the S&W EZ9. If I do, I will definitely get one of these, "Hilljak Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Shield EZ Quickie Loader". I have one for my Ruger MKIV mags and they work great & It's only 8 bucks delivered.

I bought some mag devices like those for my 2 (now 1) 380 EZ. I will likely get another one when I get my 9 EZ, although an UpLula will work with only minor issues.

I initially thought that's what the indentation was for also. By chance I had to tear down the mags to clean them up before selling and figured it all out.
