The SDVE has a long track record being very reliable. At the moment, I think a Walther Creed at the same price would be my choice though.
Make sure you try the triggers on both.
One has a somewhat DA Revolver like trigger.
The other has no real defined break.
I know people who can't deal with either.
Of the list of sub-$300 pistols I listed earlier the Canik TP9 SF has the nicest trigger in my opinion. The Canik is NATO certified so should be reasonably reliable. They.are $280 at Academy. That doesn't mean it's the right pistol for you. That is different for everyone.
The RUGER because I want to hit what I’m aiming at.
Although both are probably equally reliable.
I do own a SDVE, I do not own a SR9.
I do own an LC9 and it is twice as accurate as the SDVE in my hands.
I do not use trunk pistols since I carry my pistol CCW. If you life depends upon it I suggest you carry the best. If I want a cheap effective gun in the trunk I would chose a used pump shotgun in 12, 16, or 20 ga as being good to go. In my area such are generally much cheaper than would be either of the pistols you mentioned.Which pistol for an economy and trunk gun ? The type of gun you would toss in a hunting bag or fishing box or just for any outdoors type thing. And why do you pick them one you chose ?
Tackle box is normally a smaller pistol. I guess a keltec 380-9x19 or small ruger for that maybe.

A poll with with 2 pistols isn’t much of a poll! Seriously, for a new gun I’d have to add & vote for the Walther Creed. If you look at used guns, a Walther PPQ-M1 or a Glock 17 are great choices.
