No idea how long these have been out. Just discovered this with my latest order....

New Primer Alarm Design
Dillon has been through at least 2 other designs on the mounting portion of the primer alarm. When the pinch screw was over-tightened the housing plastic would crack. My son's was so badly cracked that the threaded insert fell out. I went to show him mine as a "good example" and it was cracked too! Anyway, when the new ones arrived today, they have a completely new clamping system and it works much better. I understand this was released with the XL750.

I thought they would simply supply the housing, but they sent an entire new Primer Alarm Switch (complete)... 1 for him and 1 for me !!

New Ammo Box Design
One of the less expensive Dillon products is their ammo boxes. The price has climbed slightly, but they are still a great deal at 10 boxes for ~$13. Gen 1 boxes were translucent, but the "living hinge" kept giving out. Gen 2 lasted much, much longer but the opaque case meant you had to open every box to see what was inside. The latest Gen 3 (far right) is (thankfully) back to the translucent, but this time assembled from 2 separate parts... so they've given up on the "living hinge" idea. These seem so much more substantial.

Hope this helps.

I don’t keep my screws tight enough I can’t slide them off the knurled knob, with a little resistance. That said, it seems like you have to build things for people that could mess up an anvil with a rubber mallet these days, especially if you give them a lifetime no BS warranty.

Well the new primer alarm design has been around longer than the 750. My 550 I bought 2 years ago has one like on the right just for some information.
My 650 that is about 3 years old has the new style as well. Ironically, I was talking to a buddy about the primer alarm today. It is such a simple design and can really save your ass. I forgot to put the rod in ONCE when refilling the primer tube. Got on a roll and before I knew it, I had loaded about 50 rounds with no primers. Thankfully they were just cheap lead wadcutters, so I trashed them. Normally when I make a mistake like that, it would have been with expensive jacketed bullets.

Looking forward to my next Dillon order for the newer translucent ammo boxes. My 9mm is covered as I can have about 3500 boxed and the rest ammo canned. My 45 I've only got about 700 rounds worth and shoot two to three bullet designs which means I'm filling boxes often from ammo cans. Saving some cash towards a complete primer system for my 650 so it's a very easy swap between large and small primers.

Just looked at my primer alarm for comparison, and there's another crack in it in the radius from the insert, and it's not that tight (doesn't take much force to make it slip). The first time it cracked, I did a JB weld sculpture on it, and that part still looks good. I wonder how much longer its going to hold up?

My primer alarm doesn’t work. I bought my press used and replaced the old battery , but it is still silent.
Any idea how much the new ones cost?
David
