The Dillon shellplates are the same for .44 Mag/Spl/Colt and Russian. But the smaller rim doesn't stay put on the priming upstroke - pops out and gouges the rim.

Has anyone else seen this problem - and can suggest a workaround? I just wrote Dillon to see what they say.

I am not a Dillon user but it might require a different shell plate do work correctly. Dillon will make it work for you. They are the best at CS for presses.

ETA: if you have a hand primer use that for now. Kind of negates a progressive but you will get loaded ammo but at a slower rate of course.

That should be a #4 shellplate used with #4 buttons. I'm with Mr Frog, call Dillon CS. Either your #4 needs replacing due to wear, or they have a slightly tighter shell plate for your specific case.

I did a little reading as the topic is interesting. I couldn't find SAMMI specs on the case, but according to Starline, the rim on a 44 Colt is the same as on a 41 Rem Mag, which is .492 +/- .012 vs 44 mag/spcl at .514 +/- .010. The 41 Mag is a Dillon #6 shellplate (#13120) vs the #4 you currently have. Weird that they list the #4 plate as working with 44 Colt.

Yup, it shares the same rim dimensions as the .41 Mag, and not the .44 Mag. THanks.
