Looking to give Missouri's 405 gr lead bullets a try in my Marlin and was wondering if you prefer the coated or lubed better?

I have 350Gr Hornady XTP's over Reloader 7 shooting good now but want to try the heavier cast at a slower speed to save my shoulder some pain.

BTW, throw me some good powder weights that work good for you under the 405's as well. Thanks in advance.

If you aren't sure of your bore diameter, coated may be cleaner (but smellier). No experience with Missouri , I use a laser cast 405 (lubed) over a case of trail boss for 45-70 plinking. Works great.

Either one you wont go wrong. I use both and prefer coated. Just easier to work with for me.

What powder do you have. If you have as5744 or h4895 I can shoot u some data. I have used tb and 3031 too.

Do you simply scoop the case full and seat? I thought we weren’t meant to do that. Just curious.

First time I put 13gr Unique under a 405 I shot a 5 shot group at 50 yards where all holes were touching. Skinner peep and skinner patridge front post with the front of the blade painted white.

A 5 year old girl could shoot this load all day.

It is not my hunting load, but it is an extremely enjoyable plinking load and that big old 405 still knocks that steel around even at a measly 1100fps.

I like 13 gr. of Trailboss under a 405 gr. lead bullet. (as I recall the 13 gr load is max recommended)

I think they give a discount to members here, but I don't have the code, unfortunately. I know they do to first responders and military.

405 mbc coated with 41.0 3031 will get u around 1400 fps and not too bad of recoil. I have went from 33 to 48.5 but would recommend staying in the middle.

I shoot Hornady 350 RN in my Siamese Mauser 45-70. It has a ER Shaw 26 inch barrel, and the gun is very heavy-- in the 10 pound neighborhood. I used to shoot the 350 grain bullets at 2200 fps when I was a lot younger, but now at 71 years young- that would be brutal. My specs. are out in my reloading room, but I remember the last loadings were supposed to give 1600 fps with 3031 powder. The last time I shot it I got 7/8 th inch 5 shot group at 100 yards. It was 7/8 high, and only about 1/2 inch wide. So I stopped shooting with that group. If I changed out the 2 stage military trigger, I may get better groups.
