Steel 9mm with least muzzle flip/recoil

Although they're getting up there in price, I find an H&K P7 to have almost no muzzle flip, and at least the 8-round model is no problem for my smallish hands.

So my pick for the best 9mm i have shot is the CZ-75 version the sp-01 tactical. If you have the money for a shadow 2 then get that but its out of my range. Now that i have answered your question 9mm loads can be all over the map. My 4.0 grain load of tight group under a 115 grain rmr bullet is not only very accurate in every pistol its been shot in, but a real pleasure to shoot. The two guys i shoot with are every day carry guys and when i shoot factory ammo in their small pistols it sucks bad. My load is way nicer and in a full size a real pleasure. I shoot it most out of a glock 17 which is also a half polymer gun but its not a limitation with that load. On the other side a full house load with power pistol is the worst i have shot so far. Hand loading has some real benefits.

The Ruger 1911 in 9mm, the stainless steel model with rosewood grips has had my eye since its inception. Saving up for this one. Rock Island also makes a 1911 in 9mm. Others have already noted the CZ's H&K, Beretta, and old S&W single stackers.

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Shooting my buddies’ Glock 19 and Sig SP2022, they were controllable enough, but not what I considered enjoyable by any stretch. They felt very snappy. I actually liked my .45 1911 better, but my .32 Colt 1903 best of all.

I added a P.08 Luger to the collection and found it similar, better than the polymer guns but a bit snappy for a really enjoyable shooting session. I wrote off 9mm for a long time. Then I tried a Browning Hi Power and it was a completely different experience. Really pleasant. Sadly I only had a chance to run one mag through that gun.

I like steel guns, no plastic. What other 9mm guns are out there that aren’t snappy? This is for the range/open carry in the field, not ccw. That said, my hands are on the small side for a man. I’ve dry fired a Beretta 92 and find that I can reach the trigger well enough, but it just feels “big.” I also shot a friend’s Sig P365 and it felt surprisingly tame for such a small gun.
My vote goes to CZ SP-01 and Shadow 2 or EAA Witness (Tanfoglio) Stock III, Limited, Match, Stock II, P21L.
All steel P226 and its variants are also very soft shooters.
I'm sure the all steel Walther Q5 is also a soft shooter.
I had the occasion to shoot a STI Spartan 9 and a STI Champion 9 and both were soft shooters.

OP, “Czech” out (pun intended) the new Laugo Arms “Alien” pistol recently displayed at the SHOT show, and highlighted in the NRA “ShootingIllustrated”.

I’m eagerly awaiting importation.

Pricy but the folks on 1911forum indicate the Wilson Carry Comp in 9mm is ludicrously soft shooting.

For soft shooting, I have a Kimber Aegis Elite in 9mm. Love it.

Not steel framed but also have a Beretta M9A3. My kids love shooting this one as well and it is not too much for and 13 and 12 year old.

This gun shooting major power factor is a joke... 9mm would be absurd.

Gotta agree here. My Tactical Sport is the softest shooting 9 I have ever shot. And the trigger is the sweetest trigger I have ever tripped, even better than my Wilson’s and Les Baer.

Now I haven’t shot my 320 Legion X5 yet, but expect it to be close to the Tactical Sport in softness.

Yeah, pretty steep, but you get what you pay for.
Probably most accurate 9mm auto on the planet.
Current offering includes extra sight rib, accessory’s.
In line with similar upper tier custom competition pistols.
We’ll see more offerings utilizing the gas system design.

Supposedly a regular production model is coming soon.

I have 2 of these (they weer on CAs approved list if that matters)
I liked the first one so much I bought a spare.

$840 ish
I have a Springfield Range Officer 1911 in 9mm, and it makes me smile every time I shoot it.
Not the RO model but I agree, my loaded's make me smile.

A 1911 in 9mm is just sweet!

About 30k rounds thru number 1 no problems, shoots as good as I am capable of.
Aftermarket mags are cheap
https://www.cdnnsports.com/1911-10rd-9mm-zenith-magazine.html $15 hold 10 rounds all that's allowed in CA.

As Lysander the 13th mentioned, the Baby Eagle/Jericho 941 9x19mm had the lowest recoil of anything I've encountered. The trick is finding spare magazines that will work.

Without getting stupid expensive any 6" long slide 1911 in 9x19mm.

My softest shooting guns are my Tanfoglio TA/90's. The one in my avatar is very nice, and even better is it's "Mossad" brother:

Close behind would be my two Jericho 941's, a full sized surplus in nickel and a near new "mid" one.
Then would be my Sig P226 SSE, probably the heaviest 9mm I own. All of these are very soft shooting, but the Mossad one is just point and shoot, recoil is barely there with 115 or 124 grain ammo, and it's still really soft with 147, but you can definitely tell what you are shooting without looking. One of my best scores. All I did was put a new recoil spring in it, and clean the baby spiders out of it.

While I have not shot every gun mentioned I think I have shot the BHP, CZ75, Smith 39 and the Beretta 92.

And... TO ME the softest shooting 9mm is a Colt Government Model in 9mm. YMMV. (you can substitute any full size steel frame 1911 model)

I wish I could say I have updates for this thread, but alas, I don’t. One of these days I’ll make it to the local range where they have a 9mm 1911 and a Beretta PX4 for rent. (Both have been mentioned here, and yes I know, the PX4 is polymer which is outside the original post that started this thread... but I’m game to try anything.)

Lots of great suggestions from everyone, including many pistols I never knew existed.
