I'm wondering if a Bore Scope is worth buying? They are considerably cheaper now than they used to be which is great and now being able to be used in conjunction with a phone or computer is a wonderful benefit as you can take screenshots and use them for information gathering.

I do have 3 used TC Omega muzzleloaders that worked great for about 5 years and then I couldn't get them on paper. Wondering if the barrels got pitted and rusted causing accuracy problems or if something like the Bore Butter I used caused a hardened coating inside the barrel causing the issues and if cleaned out would resolve the problem. If I used a bore scope it could perhaps show me what the situation is.

I was looking at something like this:

Is a Bore Scope worth buying? - And if so, what one is the best value?

you can get the endoscopes from around $5.00 and up on ebay. same thing, works on your phone and/or computer. takes pictures/videos and is priced lower. i got one for $9.00 with free shipping. works good.

I made a light to drop in the barrel for nothing out of scrap. Put a black dot ove top of bulb to cut glare. Can see everything. Granted I can get it in a 45cal but just not yet. If you are interested in how to rework those barrels let me know. It's a chore but the two I did shoot great since.

I bought one off Amazon for $20 that worked really well for its cost. I used it at my old job to look inside of a/c ductwork for loose hardware. it connected to my phone and gave plenty sharp enough pictures.

Search Teslong and put Nature boy as the poster. You'll see his review on it.

I bought a Teslong; the $49.99 version that works with my computer. Came with three mirrors which I appreciate, as I am sure to lose one. I like it a lot so far.

I see on Amaz. , there are 2 models? On is $70 and rigid bore scope, other is semi-flexible and $50.

Either one is affordable. Well, once income tax is back hehe....

Yeas & nays between the two from the THR community please?

I have the Lyman (rigid). It is easy to rotate and position exactly where you want it, but is hard to find handy place to store. I mounted a piece of 1/2" poly water pipe under shelf on back of my bench to protect and keep out of the way.

Assume the flexible would not be a problem to rotate ???? and more convenient to store.

I just got the $49 teslong from Amazon, the first one arrived DOA, i have herd that teslong customer service is good so I prepared screenshots showing the lack of connection, and sent an e-mail to teslong, got an auto reply that they were out of the office for the Chinese new year. So I exchanged it through Amazon, the second one artived 2 days later and works wonderfully, amazon sent the replacement right away, and gave me a code to send back the broken one at a UPS store, no further charge. The hick-up was annoying but it worked out.

I run it through my htpc on the 65" living room tv, windows 10 built in camera utility picks it right up.

Takes a bit to get the focus just right, you adjust it by screwing the mirror in and out, changing bore diameter kinda requires different focus for perfect image, but in practice 22cal focus works ok for 30 cal, aand covers a lot of my collection.

Image quality is very good, fouling, copper, even detailed images of the shape of dust. I am also finding machine work in several of my rifles is poor. My son's savage rascal looks decent. My daughters i bought a few years later is a mangled mess.

I've also got the earlier Teslong from Amazon.

Scope is inexpensive and works great. The good news is the inexpensive cause you're going to need the money for solvents, patches, jags, and brushes (if you use them). Once you get a look at what's still in your bore after your normal cleaning regime, you're going to lose sleep. Then IF that's not enough, seeing the condition (tool marks, etc.) of the average factory barrel will drive you over the edge and you're then going to go broke buying hand-lapped barrels.

I swear I saw a homeless guy in KC last weekend that I used to shoot matches with 6 months ago. Tried saying "Hi", but he ignored me and just kept rambling about "Teslong and Sweats 7.62".

You can get good ones for $15-20. I use mine for lots of different things, works great. I made sure to get the smallest I could find so it would work down to 36 cal muzzleloaders.

After Nature Boy's review on the Teslong, I've had one in the cart but haven't pulled the trigger just yet.

...still trying to convince myself that it will get well-used.

You'll be amazed at how much use it will get.

I have a question for NB or others who have the Teslong. I'm barely conversant with my electronics, they just don't understand sign language. Can the Teslong be paired with a phone and a computer both, or just one or the other? Reason I ask is that my desktop is not in the loading room, where my cleaning bench is set up. Would be nice to be able to observe on phone while loading pics to computer in the other room.

The $49 teslong works with windows via standard USB A, or android phones with either a USB type C or "mini B" charging port, (that's almost all android phones) on android you may have to install an app. Windows 10 has a built in app that works great.

There is a seperate model for iPhones.

Works fine with my Samsung S8 phone. Download from Google play store is "Teslong HD". Just plug in the camera using the provided adapter, allow the app access to camera and storage and you're all set.

Here's a nice picture of the bore of my Marlin 1894... Very nice tool marks! Still shoots great at 25m though!
