I'm looking to start loading for 9x19 and am trying to decide who to order bullets from. At the moment I'm not partial to plated, coated, or just plain lubed. What I do want is a good flat point or swc in the 124gr range. Something with a wide enough flat surface to be useful for more than just target shooting, but with a good probability of feeding properly.

Who do you folks recommend?

SWC's can be troublesome to get to run well in 9mm semi autos. If possible, you'll want to get a few samples and try them out before buying in bulk. Some guns (those with generous throats) will eat them like candy, while others will just choke.

What pistol and velocity range are you looking at?

Do you have any leading issues with your pistol?

Is utmost accuracy a requirement?

RMRs 124 match winner is a truncated cone. It’s my go to competition bullet. You won’t be disappointed.
Bayou Bullets has a 120gr truncated cone that’s pretty nice and you can get them sized to what you like at no extra cost.
I’m curious what you mean “ for more than just target shooting”?
What gun or guns do you have? TCs and SWCs can be a problem so go easy on the first order until you determine they’ll be ok.

I got some coated SWCs from MBC that feed reliably in my full-size handguns. However, I haven't found an accurate load yet. I've only tried 2 so far.

I haven't tried them in my compact 9mms yet.

No, I won't be match shooting so I'm not looking for the n'th degree in accuracy. Just good enough for every day target shooting.

At present I have a Beretta 92fs and a Ruger LC9S. May add a Ruger PCC in 9mm before much longer.

"More than just target shooting" means can be pressed into service for pest elimination defense, whatever, so the wider the flat point the better. Of course, it still has to feed and function so there is always the usual tradeoff.

Why are 9s so much more particular about this than 45s? Both of mine will feed and function with pretty much any 200gr swc I use do long as the OAL is right.

pest elimination defense, whatever
If that is the case I would suggest the 124gr MPRs from RMR, a jacketed hollow point for a very good price.

$99/1000 shipped free -5% THR discount makes them $95.

They are my current goto bullet for matches.
MPR stands for Multi Purpose round.
If you are just shooting paper the Match Winner flat points are less expense, if you are looking for something multi use the MPRs would be a much better choice IMO.
Good bullets, excellent accuracy, great company to do business with.

Rmr mprs or match winners.

Use both extensively and both are great. Accurate as you can be.
I've used with titegroup and sport pistol with fantastic results

I've had good luck with the Acme and Missouri 122-124gr Truncated cone. They've fed reliably for me in several automatics including a fussy Taurus G2 and a couple of military handguns. Neither do much for small game/pests though. Even with the flat point, they sail through like a FMJ. You'll need to find a hollow point suitable for this purpose.

Depending on the pest, the RMR match winner has a fairly wide flat point and may suffice. RMR has a multi purpose round (JHP) as others have mentioned and it’s a very nice bullet as well.
I don’t know that 9’s are any more or less problematic with feeding than 45’s. They each have their quirks. I have a DW pointman that won’t feed the match winner reliably. You can tailor OAL to some degree, with the proviso of keeping the pressure safe with a shorter OAL.
I know it’s difficult to process all opinions on a forum and choose a bullet or company to do business with. I’ve done business with most of companies listed, they’re all good, RMR included. RMR has a slight advantage where you can get in-house 124gr jacketed RN, FP, or HP. And then they have a wide weight range if you’re in to that as well. They will not disappoint. Good luck.

► You'll want stay away from FPRN. Those don't tend to feed well in Luger guns, only the 357SIG.
► If you're talking about Conical FP, then you'll really not do any better than the Match Winner from RMR.
► For SWC, you might look at the Hi-Tek coated from Missouri Bullet. These have fed great in my CZ. Here

Both the RMR and MBC bullets have discounts for THR members.

+1. The Acme 122gr FP has been supremely accurate in my guns. Good price too, lots of 10% discount codes available too if you look around a little.
