I’m going to try SS/CDP (yes I swing both ways) and need to settle on a decent .45 full size. I did a few searches in this forum to see if this has been beaten to death already, but didn’t get any real hits. If there’s a search someone can reply with or references, please do so.
I want a high quality, reliable, good value, full size 1911 in .45. There are plenty to choose from and everyone will have an opinion, no doubt. I’m eligible to purchase a Sig Stainless Super Target at a very attractive price and was wondering if anyone here shoots one and could comment on the competition aspects of it?
Other 1911s I have looked at include the Ruger 1911 competition which I shot last year at the Live Free or Die match where Ruger sets up a demo tent. The SA Range Officer Elite Target looks nice, as does the Colt Competition and the DW Valor-2. Let er rip!

Can you use a SAO in SSP? I didn’t think you could.

When I wanted to classify in all possible divisions when they did it that way a few years back, I shot a Glock 41. Legal in SSP, ESP, and CDP.

if I misunderstood you and you already have an SSP gun and are only looking for a 1911 type for CDP, I suggest the Dan Wesson. Huge value for the money, top quality parts, and well built IME.

I shoot my DW Razorback heritage in CDP and multigun “heavy” divisions. I replaced the OEM front sight with a Dawson fiber optic, installed a S&A magwell and some aggressive LOK grips but that’s it.

It’s my understanding you cannot, it’s DA, DAO or striker.
However, I was indicating USPSA Single Stack (SS). And with .45 it’d be major. I currently shoot a P226 in SSP, but may be changing that up this year as well, the 320 fever has hit. That and my buds want me to try CO so it may be more than a few changes.
I have a DW Pointman and understand DW is a great value, and not too far away from where I live.

Most of the single-stack people I encounter pitch the DW stuff as being the best non-custom "factory" guns for USPSA use. I don't know which models are the best choice, but DW seems to be the consensus around here unless you're going to step up to something crazy like an Atlas or an Akai single stack.

P226 Legion RX? ;)

I shoot P226 in SSP also. Love that gun.
Just a plain Legion P226. They tried to sell me the RX slide when I was in the pro shop but I foolishly declined. Guess I’ll have to make another trip, maybe around the AFZ match.

I have a “beater” Armscor stainless 1911 that was $299 new from a vender in Shotgun news that a fellow completed IDPA Nationals with after his STI broke.

I generally run an SV or STI myself but my “farm” 1911 is that Armscor and it just runs and runs, from homemade shot shells to hardball, with the right mags it feeds empty cases.

#1 priority is a gun that runs, after that any of them can win if driven the best.

Indeed. I’ve heard from several sources RIA has a very reasonable 1911. I didn’t mean to imply you need to spend $$$ to buy quality although that’s usually been my experience. I may end up with an SV or STI eventually, but for now was aiming for a ~2K race ready gun.

The cheapest firearm I have won wood with and actually been high overall at a sanctioned match with was a Glock.

If people don’t mess them up, they seem to meet the first priority more often than even the most expensive 1911 style pistols, out of the box.

I see that you've already made up your mind so this probably wouldn't be helpful, but I wouldn't recommend anyone "get into" SS/CDP. There is very little participation in SS division locally and even at major matches up to the Area match level. Maybe you're different than me but what drives me to continue in this sport is the fact that I am competing with other people. If I show up to a match as one of only one or two other shooters in my division I'd be looking at switching divisions ASAP.

I shoot a 1911 put together by an up-n-comer a few years ago... for so reason there has been a local resurgence in CDP shooters

If I were starting over again, I'd start with a STI Trojan

STI doesn't make the Trojan or Spartan anymore...just a two piece plastic grip "1911" now.

1911s are how much do you want to spend.
On the low end I am quite happy with my Citadel (RIA). Lots of rounds no issues.
I also have a couple Springfield "Loaded's" that are nicer but close to 1.5 time the price
30K + rounds on one Loaded no issues other than replacing springs.

I shot a Ruger SR-1911 for many years, then moved to a Les Baer Concept V. Current IDPA gun is a double stack .45ACP STI frame with Springfield top end. My wife shoots in the optic division with a Springfield 9mm loaded with a Burris FastFire III.

The latest batch of DW Valors have decent comp sights on them, and a Stan Chen magwell that should easily fit the crappy CDP box specs.

I made a CDP box, and my Valor fits, just barely with a Dawson Ice magwell. But if it's warmer than 70 outside, it might not. It's that tight. Fits the SS Uspsa box fine though. Magazines are flush, or inside the magwell, so tac reloads are a pita, by slide lock reloads are cake still.

My SS gun will sit in my range bag. I'll shoot that division if some very nice SS shooters show up and need more people in that division. Otherwise, SS and CDP are kinda boring to me, since everyone is running the exact same pistol. I prefer limited. And limited 10 was a blast since everything was in that division. The L10 and SS split kinda ruined it for me.
