So they look cool, and take up to 10 inches or more less barrel space, but what is the advantage of an AR pistol over a 9mm PCC? Those aren't yet reasons that sell me on them. I have been trying to talk myself into getting one, but why not just use a handgun, a PCC or a 16 inch AR rifle? What are your reasons? It's not like I haven't looked online for hours to justify it. Somebody come up with something good please, so I can identify a mission for them, and take more space in my safe.

Thanks.

I built a 5.56 at pistol and it was pretty sweet but it was not really very useful. A 300 blk or similar would be better, especially with a brace.

For me when you get less than 10 or so inches on a 223/5.56 it turns into a novelty, for example 7-7.5" barrels. Blasty, poor performance etc. But, I see them everywhere so someone has to be buying them...

BCM MKII 12.5" feels right to me. And when you screw a can onto it it's still about the same length as an 18" barreled upper. I have a 10.5" as well, its not bad at all. The 2 inches seems negligible but the other longer one just seems to run smoother/better. I may be no help regarding talking you into it, but if you just want something different a braced pistol really can be fun to shoot. And, in my experience the longer barreled "pistols" (10-12.5") can be much more accurate than you would think.

Cost is a big one, and 9mm PCC's are not cheap, and traditional styling is hard to find. BTW a 5.56 with 25gr H335, and a 55FMJ - a fairly light load chrono's at 2600 FPS from a 10.5, and thats not really wimpy. Thats all I got.

This is one of my concerns, unless the opportunity cost is overidden by a specific use. My instructor harps on train with a purpose, select weapons with a purpose. He's always been right about everything he's told me. I had this discussion with him. Which is why I didn't buy the PS90 I was set on. So 12+ inch AR pistol, I get that, use case anyone?

They fit, easily, in places that a rifle won't; this is highly convenient.
You took the words right outta my mouth.....
Takedown pins on my pistol.
I like to carry my b.u.g. iwb on road trips, then assemble my AR pistol when we get settled in our at our destination. 20161114_181323.jpg
Also...an ar pistol is just darn fun to shoot.
One thing that makes an AR 556 better than a pcc....?
A . 22lr conversion kit.!

I CCW an 11 1/2" 5.56 AR pistol. It falls under my CPL, meaning I can carry it loaded in my car, whereas I cannot with a rifle. I wanted 5.56 because I wanted a weapon I could quickly deploy with unexpected power, capacity, and I could shoot more accurately at distance.

I don't own one but think it'd be cool to have one just as an "anti-gun people don't want me to have this cuz it's scary so I'm gonna buy one just because I can" device.

For practical uses, it could serve well for long-range handgun use, such as handgun deer season. Also, in some states you can't have loaded AR rifle in car but loaded AR pistol is ok. One last practical use could be possible intimidation factor that could enable you to dissuade potential attackers without needing to shoot them, I mean, who wants to go up against someone armed with what looks like a submachine gun?

Well, back during the summer when it seemed gun ban fever was ramping up amongst the political class I bought a Sig Sauer MCX Rattlesnake Canebrake in .300 AAC Blackout. Not because I think AR pistols are wonderful, versatile and the universal firearm for every possible application in the universe, which it isn't.
In fact, as a earlier poster said, it's really a sort of workaround to acquire a SBR type of gun without the NFA stamp.
The gun is not very practical. Too big to ccw. Really too big to be useful as a handgun, like a Glock 19, or a Colt 1911, or similar pistol.
But, hey...I got it. It's mine. TAKE THAT, antigunners!. (Snicker snicker).

A 10.5" barrel and a LAW folding adapter fit a 300 ACC in a briefcase. Flip the stock into place and the weapon is ready to go.

I dont have an instructor but an AR pistol is really fun to shoot. It also is substantially smaller than a rifle and much more accurate and powerful than a handgun.

9mm PCC's have come a long way but the 5.56 is, in my experience, more reliable and more versatile.

Parts are more or less standard and available.

I like mine with 10.5 barrel.

The 9mm is quieter, however, and cheaper to shoot.

I've noticed a lot of poeple talk about 300 Blackout in the AR pistols as opposed to the 5.56mm. Why? Genuine question, want to know, as I am on/off gain thinking about an AR pistol myself, while the prices are so screamingly low.

Oh why again? See not so far out in front, on life's highway. Yes, that is a real storm coming, roll the ol' Ford windows up, wipers check. Lights. ...

Gov't is wanting to take, take, take, up life's road and sometimes not too distant future i.e. Virginia.

The two main reasons that I built my first AR pistol are; I can deer hunt with it during muzzle loading season (modern pistols allowed) and also the fact that I can have it in my vehicle loaded. Mine is a 10.5" 5.56. I am seriously thinking of changing the barrel to 300.

As far as 300 vs 556 question, the 300 was designed for use in short barrels from the get go.

This one has teeth. 1/2 way there.

Seeing pictures like this in my youth stuck in the back of my mind. Plus PSA was selling AR pistol kits for $260 not too long ago.
