M1 Carbine troubleshooting

Sounds like the bolt is not going fully into battery; or it's unlocking early (only a "maybe"). Neither of those are good.
And to reiterate, that's factory repair territory.

I contacted AO today and they said the warranty is only a year from original purchase date but will do a free inspection. After inspection they will let me know what the cost of repairs will be. So that’s probably my next step. I got the bolt tool today so I probably will take that apart and clean it good.

I was working on the piston last night with CLP and a 308 case. I was able to move it slightly side to side, there was a bunch of greenish gray junk dripping out as it moved the little it did. Still no in and out movement though

Just measured, my 74 year-old Saginaw, total side-to-side play was (by eyeball on my caliper) is 0.315" with the piston being a hair more than 0.30"; it drops in and out freely. This emulates my old Inland (1944), and IBM (1943).

Thanks, Rifle just got back to AO today. Hopefully will hear back soon with the damage.

So its been a month now my carbine has been at Kahr arms for repair. After a week or so they said the piston does not fit properly in the piston nut. They stated it was a manufacturer defect so they are polishing the piston to resolve that.

after telling me the chamber and headspace was good, a week went by with no word. After I called they then told me there is not enough headspace and were waiting on a chamber reamer that was gonna be coming in a day or two. Another week, another call to them they stated they just got the tool and were gonna work on it that day and ship out next week.

now a month has gone by and after my message wasnt replied to last week I call today. They told me they are waiting for a reamer tool and it should get here this week and maybe get rifle shipped out next week. I asked how or why I have been told this 3 times and told they had the tool weeks ago. He couldnt really answer me so fingers crossed i ever get my carbine shipped back!

Hey OP - So what's the punch line here? Did you get your rifle back? If so, what did they do to fix it?

Got it back, fired 10 rounds just fine the day I got it. They stated they reamed the chamber and replaced the mag. Havent shot it since seeing as I only had two boxes of ammo and everything is shut down around here now.

They did try to charge me after saying it was a factory defect . I explained that the gunsmiths said they were gonna take care of it. Customer service took that as they were just going to fix it. I said no, i asked them im specifically if they were covering cost and they said yes. So all and all i paid nothing and rifle fired.

Wow! Hope that you got it repaired correctly this time. I would sure hate to have to go through all that again! At least they made it good after a fashion. I have read about the various horror shows some have gone through only to have no improvment in the end.
