If you had an "extra" 1K, what gun would you buy?

So a grand +/-, what would be going into your gun collection?

I'm anticipating a nice bump in pay and have a lil money earmarked for a new gun. I like and want for all kinds but as of right now I'm looking at a couple uppers, trying to decide between the PSA premium w/geissele super mod rail and a BCM mid length enhanced LW with BCM Mlok. They are both very nice but I'm leaning toward the BCM because it's on sale for under $600 and quality is likely quantifiably better on the BCM.

Been eyeballing a MK12 upper for a long time too and that would fulfill a long time wish but that exceeds my 1K limit by a small amount so I have to kick it around some more.

Was also considering a PCC, this purchase isnt intended to fulfill a particular need, just kind of a splurging for the heck of it kind of thing.

What would you buy with a grand if you were splurging?

First of all, there's no such thing as extra money.

Having said that, if a thousand bucks dropped into my lap I would look at the guns that I have and make sure that I have as many magazines as I think would be adequate for the rest of my life for each one.

Then I'd look at the guns that I know I'm going to carry on a regular basis and buy a Kramer holster for them.

Whatever's left over would go toward a case of 9mm Speer Gold Dots. If I had anything left over after that it would go towards a case 9 mm Blazer Brass

When you're not really in the market for new hardware, you tend to think in terms of ammo and accessories. That's probably the route I would go, realistically.

I'm thinking about picking up reloading for .38/.357, and $1K would go a long way towards that I would imagine.

Sometimes I have brief thoughts about a .45-70, and I've also been thinking about a .44 mag revolver/levergun combo lately. I could also take $1K and get a couple of guns in some "off" calibers that I don't normally stock for "just in case" ammo availability purposes (I'm looking at you, 9mm/.40 cal). But to be honest I could get by fine without any of these things.

The only guns on my list are two or three times that, but if I had $1k of use it or lose it gun money I would buy or build an AR10 in .308 and spend whatever I had left on mags, bullets powder and brass.

Edit: for your options, I'd get the BCM

3 PSA lowers and uppers to make complete rifles for my kids when they get older.

If the gun money must be spent on me, I’m going to say it would almost certainly be a witness elite limited 10mm.

I've been wanting to put together a bull barreled 10/22 build with Kidd receiver and trigger for a while now, for some "whistle pig" eradication and some target shooting. It would probably go towards that, if I had to spend it on a gun, not really a gun per say but parts to assemble a gun.

But it would be going towards glass on my 280ai rifle, but that doesn't answer the original question of what gun I would buy.

9mm ar and bunch of mags. But then I would need another $1000 for ammo or reloading supplies after the grand kids found out.

Ditto. Great minds think alike.

Since the O.P. is wanting a new gun I would likely buy a Ruger Wrangler for $200.00 and use the remaining $800.00 to buy ammunition and magazines.

Oh my God, the voice of reason.

This is where I'm at, as well. I actually do have a $1k bonus coming next month. And I am considering what to do with it. And gun stuff (probably not a new gun) is high on that list. But I also have other household priorities. Adulting is so hard. Admiral Ackbar once said "It's a Trap!" and I think he was referring to growing up. lol

I will think on this thread, and take inspiration of the ideas of others. Surely, out of a thousand dollars there must be some money for "gun stuff."

Yeah I dont think I'm well off enough to say any amount of money is "extra", hence the emphasis of extra in quotes.

I agree though, guns are really expensive paperweights without ammo+magazines but I spent most of 2018 on mags and 2019 on ammo. I'm not opposed to surpassing my intended marks in terms of ammo supply but I have been wanting a mid length or Mk12 for years now and I think I might just go ahead on a new build. Probably go for the BCM.....
