LGS had 20 gauge Shockwaves for $199. I've shot about 25 rounds and starting having extraction and feeding issues. Magazine tube cap was loose. Now functions fine unless I try to load a fifth shell. Won't go in and the follower binds in the tube resulting in no tension on the shell column. Have to remove the cap and dislodge the follower with a rod.

Supposed to take five 2 3/4 inch shells. Should I remove the spring and follower to see if there is a burr on the follower or inside the tube? Other ideas? Thanks in advance.

I take shotguns apart and clean them up when new no matter what. Sounds to me like your spring is binding up.

The magazine tube should be cleaned up with a swab and very lightly oiled. Might just fix your problem by disassembling and reassembling!

No problems from my 20 ga so far. Clean it and if it still doesn't work, Mossberg will fix it. I thought I got a deal at $289.00 w/ free shipping but $199.00 is insane.

Thanks for the input, guys. I did disassemble, clean, and lubricate before shooting. Did not remove the magazine spring. I think that's next on the agenda. Yes, $199 plus tax was too tempting. LGS must have got a good deal from the distributor because they had several at that price, all 20 gauge. 12s and .410s were around $375.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that the "five round" figure was meant to be one in the chamber FOUR in the tube...

The mag tube will take five 2 3/4" shells, but it is tight. Consider that the mag tube is about 14 and 1/2 inches long. Assuming that your shells are actually 2 3/4" long (there is some variation depending on manufacturer), five shells require 13 and 3/4 inches. The spring and follower take up a bit of room as well.

I removed and replaced the magazine cap on my 12 ga Shockwave (replacing the aluminum follower with a derlin follower) and inadvertently flipped the spring over. I had the same kind of bind-up when I loaded the tube to capacity. Taking it apart again and carefully reassembling it resolved that issue.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
