I will share that my 521T, from my dad, with a 2-7x Leupold rimfire scope, shoots like a house on fire. The gun is forgiving of ammunition, but loves CCI Mini-Mags for field work.

This rifle caused lots of smiles during the four years I used it as a member of my university's varsity rifle team. It began life as a second hand Remington M-37, and was converted to international (Olympic) configuration by legendary target rifle guru Roy Dunlap. The university supplied Winchester M-52's to team members for those of us who wanted them but a NCAA rule change allowing palm rests, hook buttplates and other refinements made my "new" M-37 more competitive in three-position rifle competition. The year after I graduated my university supplied the team new Anschutz rifles with all the trimmings. After graduation I progressed to other, more intense forms of rifle competition but I've kept this old warhorse and its memories of happy days in college competitions DSC_0062.JPG DSC_0065.JPG .

I was working on a different project this morning and happened into the safe where this one resides, an old Savage Model 7 “Gill Gun”. The kids absolutely love this rifle at the range. I’m sure a lot of you guys had these kicking around back when for pest control and range plinking.

For those who aren’t familiar, while auto loading it offers a distinct pause between shots as it holds the bolt back until the trigger shoe is released, giving this and other similar models their other nickname, a “click-clack” for the sound made. For the $60 I paid it's been all fun and smiles.

Seems no rhyme or reasoning behind the number of “gills” different models received over the years.

Side view of the left-side gills and bolt lock holes (2). The latter allows for single-shot quiet shooting or locking of the bolt to the rear. Mine is also d&t’d for a peep sight, something I’ve meant to pursue but not gotten around to.

Nice long sight radius.

This one makes me smile...

It doesn't shoot like my 40X does, but I sure drive my buddies with the Kimber, CZ, and Savage bolts guns crazy. Kidd barrel and trigger. The receiver is bedded into the stock. I milled a slot into the back of the receiver so when I bedded it, the bedding acts as a locking lug when I drop the receiver into the stock. I also milled the bolt face to accommodate the rim thickness of the ammo I shoot the most of. Down side is that all I can shoot is the ammo that I milled the bolt for, or ammo with thinner rims or I have to change the bolt.

Sorry guys, I don't know why it looks like that. Haven't used this pic account in a while.

Yeah, I need to find another host. I was hoping to post pics of the bedding and and the method I used to secure the rear of the receiver.

I wouldn’t call it a tack driver but it kills the heck out of golf balls at 100 yards.

This one made me smile today; picked it up at a local gun swap for $225. Including one mag, the Marlin spanner wrench and the original Papoose takedown bag. 1987-made and only shot once before by an old lady after Sunday church....or some story like that. Not a single blemish on it except the little bluing wear where the barrel nut has been spinning around.

Live those detachable magazine Marlins. Do they make a 30 rounder for that?

very nice find.

Not a 30 rounder, but ProMag makes a 25 rounder for the 795 (UPC 708279011269) and my 10 round 795 mags fit the gun and function. But at least one source says the 25 rounders only work with post-1988 guns and mine is a 1987. I may have to just buy one and try it to find out.

This Anschutz Model-54MS is a long time favorite that now enjoys a well earned semi-retirement, but did heavy duty two decades ago when I was much involved in Silhouette competition. The colorful patches on the stock and scope are not for decoration, but are inspection stickers applied at the National Championships, dating back to 1990. Unlike some other Shilhouette shooters, I performed better with high magnification scopes such as this 24X Leupold. I haven't competed in Silouette matches in over a year, having turned my attentions to other competitions, but I keep old warhorse ready in case I get back.. DSC_0047.JPG DSC_0056.JPG

Here’s one that I bought from my neighbor. It’s an 1890 Winchester in 22 Short. It was once his Grandfather’s rifle. He said that as a kid he shot it a bunch and said that as long as he could remember it didn’t have a front sight.
It had spent the last 30 or so years in the laundry room next to the washing machine.

With some tender love and care, and a few parts, it’s now a nice shooter.

For a handful of years now, any time I’m shooting a 22LR rifle, it’s always and exclusively for a purpose, one or another. Whether hunting, training my son, or practicing for precision rifle, it seems most of my 22 LR shooting these days is burdened with purpose.

Except my Chargers. Shooting long range with Ruger 10/22 Charger pistols is one of my favorite ways to spend a rare, free afternoon. A rare opportunity to unsaddle from purpose, and do something I truly enjoy for the sake of it.

Same here, except for me it's TC Contenders.

Nice, just enough restoration without losing the character that comes from age.

Visiting upper part of my State on a sort of 2º honey moon (no kids, etc..) we came across of a local show.
My wife asked me which do you like, your birthday is coming soon, so she grabbed for me.

Lots of history in these old gallery guns. Took some doing and time to find/make parts to get late father-in-law's old Steven's back into working order.
