Saw my first 22 lr LCP at the Miami Gun Show last Saturday. Dealer was asking $349.99 but quickly came down to $265. Finally got it on the range this morning.

Shooting volume was limited due to only having the single 10 round mag that came with the gun. (Continuous reloading is tedious.) I have 4 more ordered, but only one available for today. I did manage to fire 280 rounds using eight different 22 lr loadings. This included CCI Mini-Mags in both 40 gr & 36 gr HP, Aguila 40 gr HV, Rem 40 gr HV, Blazer, Stingers, Rem Yellow Jackets and my every day go-to, Federal 36 gr bulk pack. I am happy to report, that with the exception of a single dud round (Remington, imagine that), there were no failures of any kind. Every round fed, fired and ejected and the slide locked open on empty every time.

All shooting was done standing with two hand hold at 7 yards. Accuracy was surprisingly good, considering I was more interested in dumping rounds down range to test function, rather than producing small groups. Once POA/POI is determined for a given round, shooting good groups is not difficult. I did find that due to the size and weight of the gun, trigger finger placement is more critical for proper trigger control than usual. Talking about the trigger, it felt MUCH better during live fire than it did dry firing at home.

I have seen several posting where people are asking "what's it good for", well all I can say is that I've been home for about four hours and I'm still smiling, that's reason enough for me.

Excellent report. You have a thorough and valid reason for owning one. I am impressed you tested a large variety of ammo. This has been highly informative, thanks.

Glad to see a report on these guns. I want one. I like pocket 22s. And those Remington Yellow Jackets you mentioned are some of the best hollow point 22s you can get. Years ago before Al Gore invented the internet I did the test like they did in the gun magazines with clay blocks and jugs of water. The Remington Yellow Jacket always gave picture perfect hollow point expansion no matter the gun or barrel length. My Jennings J-22 always gave expansion just like what the gunzines said a hollow point should look like. Far better than the CCI Mini-Mags ever gave from a handgun. Mini-Mags are great from a rifle or longer barreled handgun but never matched the Yellow Jackets for expansion. Great report.

Thanks for the write-up! Good to hear that you had great results with something brand new on the market!

Nice. I have the .380 version and while I do practice with it of course, it definitely isn't the most pleasant to shoot handgun I own so I don't shoot it often. I imagine the 22lr version would be a lot more pleasant and easier to shoot for awhile.

As good a reason as it gets.

I was actually considering the P17 Kel-Tec, and then this Ruger came out.

Is the frame and slide the same size as a standard LCP? I guess what I want to know is will it fit the same holster?

Looks like a fun little gun if I didn't already have a Beretta Bobcat, I'd be ordering one yesterday.

I picked one up last weekend, was quite pleased with it the first time out. It handed CCI standard velocity ammo just fine, and I only had a stoppage with some leftover federal bulk which I've had an issue with before, but it sure shot well for a little pistol. I ordered the twin pack of mags, one isn't enough. Other than a dab of paint on the front sight I'm very happy with it.

i got a ruger lcp22 just as it was announced in late december, it is the only firearm that i ever bought without research and deliberation. only 400 various rounds so far, all ok, except a few hiccups with federal lrn bulk ammo. i added a hogue beavertail grip and it still pocket carries well. i need some more range time with it but i see it as more ccw-, and less plinker-friendly, than a ruger sr22.

Quick LCP 22 lr Update

Got the LCP back to the range yesterday, along with four additional mags. Fired another 220 rounds of Federal bulk pack with zero issues. That brings the total round count to 500 with no problems to report. I also ran a few mags through my .380 LCP II. No issues, but I was quickly reminded why it spends most of it's time in the safe. Nice carry package for those occasions when no other gun will work, but I find no joy in punching paper with it.

I assume the recoil is the reason the 380 lcpII stays in the safe. mine kicks like a mule.

glad you like the 22lr,
