Need advice on a good IWB left hand holster.

Look up Leatherhead Custom Holsters or Sword Slinger Holsters online. Both make great stuff.

I am partial to Comp-Tac largely because they are local to me & make some good stuff.

I know the OP said "leather," but they do have some really good hybrids.

I'm going to suggest you look at Stealth Gear as an alternative to leather. Mine have been great and they breath much better than a leather IWB holster. However that's a two way street, and if you're a sweaty dude, a breathable holster also means moisture can reach your gun easier from your body.

I also suggest you look at quality steel core gun belts. I bought a Bigfoot gun belt, and it's very high quality. I use it every week, and it's been holding up fine for over two years.

I'd call both of those kydex holsters, though technically they are both probably called hybrids. One has a nylon backer and one has a leather backer, but the holster parts on both are kydex.

Oh yeah, that's true. The OP was talking about an all leather holster hey? Well, options aren't a bad thing.

Because it hadn't been mentioned, I'm a fan of Fist Inc. holsters.
Mostly because I bought one holster that actually worked for my last gun, and that was it.
Nice thick leather, comfortable, and there are adjustable options. I believe just about everything there can be made left-handed.
Mine even had color options, and it was beautiful.

I’ve tried several kydex IWB holsters and eventually went to leather exclusively. IWB needs to have a body shield and reinforced opening before I give it consideration.

I'm not a lefty but use a Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.5 IWB that I would consider a Hybrid. Since the backer is synthetic I don't know if that is technically correct but it functions as such.

I have one for my .45 Shield and one for my M&P M2.0 Compact 4". They adjust for tension with 4 Screw System which tightens the shell. It has rubber washers but you do have to use Loctite to keep the screws from moving over time. I haven't really had an issue with the finish on the S&W M&P Line. The backing is smaller on the 3.5 like the Shape-Shift. The 4.0 Shape-Shift is supposed to use single point adjustment but I haven't used it. The single point is also supposed to distort the kydex less when stressed making re-holstering while sitting easier but I haven't really had much issue with mine (admittedly I normally remove the whole rig instead of the pistol only if forced to leave it in the car if I have to enter a government building).

Yes it will, as will whatever the other side of the holster is made of.

It is the shape of the holster shell that provides security.

Yeah, I haven't seen holsters made of anything I'd be worried about scratching. It has to be flexible enough to get the gun in and out of, and that excludes anything that will gouge it up.
Some materials may wear it a little faster. But the finish on a carry gun is far down the list of worries.

A good holster is formed to the shape of the gun. Unless you want 'positive retention' like a holster the police will carry--which are made to prevent someone from wrestling it away, which isn't a major concern for CC--that's plenty. It just fits into the various crevices to prevent it from wiggling free, and in general does very well.
Some people are fine with soft holster, but I need something formed. Apparently I move around a lot more than some people, but then again I'm considerably thinner than average, so maybe that has something to do with it.

As a lefty myself, I love Crossbreed Holsters for my full size 1911's that I carry, very comfortable to wear and love that you can adjust the tilt of the gun to your preference. For my 686 revolver I ordered the Simply Rugged holster because they make a combo where you can wear it outside the waist or inside the waist, choice is yours. I recommend these two only because I have personal experience with both and cannot comment on other brands as I lack the knowledge and experience on their product.

Another vote for Alien Gear. I've got two of their Cloak Tucks, one a 3.5 for my Ruger Commander, the other a 3.0 Revolver, for a 4" K Frame. Both quite comfortable for IWB. Both readily adjustable for cant, tension, ride height, etc.

I can't really speak to finish wear, though. The Ruger is stainless, and the Model 10 is a police trade, so it'd be hard to spot any new wear.
