My tribute version of Doc's pearl handled revolver

Beautiful job and great video. Can you explain the need for the spacer? Is it because the insides of the grips are not countersunk or proud inside the frame?

Can you explain the need for the spacer?

Sure, it's typically used in one piece grip assemblies to keep them in place on the grip frame back strap as there are no grip/frame locating pins. It stops the grips from sliding back off the grip frame back strap.

I'm probably causing a bit of confusion by my use of the grip screw assembly. In fact, once I glued the spacer in place between the grip halves nested against the inside of the grip frame, the two grips essentially became a 'one piece grip'. The screw and escutcheons at that point are not actually needed and are mostly cosmetic. The screw look was to emulate the look of pics I saw of Doc's theoretic 1877 Colt Lightning grips.

Excellent job with the pearl grips on your Cimarron Thunderball revolver! Great photos and video too!

Oh now I've went and done it again... I broke down and modded a Cimarron Pistolero SAA 4-3/4" in nickel by making some faux Ivory grips for my rendition of the other Doc Holliday revolver used in the movie Tombstone. I think the movie gun was a .45 colt, but I stayed with .38/357 to match the Cimarron Thunderer I already modded. Plus I got a really good deal on this particular new pistol.
I may now well be starting to "defile myself." Also, now "I have two guns.... One for each of ya." :D

Excellent.
Two beautiful revolvers.
Tell us what mods you did to them?
I think the Italian S/A are real sleepers. They are much better guns than they are given credit for.

Thanks Armored farmer, and I agree they are really nice guns. One is stainless and one is nickel plated, but from a minimal distance the finishes are not easy to tell apart.
As far as the mods go, it was only the grips. Both guns came with a one piece darker walnut(?) wood grip, and I made up the pearl and ivory styled grips to make my idea of Doc Holliday tribute revolvers based on differing documented information, movies, etc. I just thought they'd look a little snazzier than the wood.

To this... I'm currently making another 'picumentary' video with a lot more pics of it, like the first one.

If you want to, perhaps a "how to" on making those would be of interest to a lot of us.
Many of us are in awe of the craftsmanship!

I'm not sure if you saw the first video at the top of this thread for the birds head pearl grips I made, but that's about as "how to" as I can do per se'. Honestly It's not much more than choosing grip material, tracing the current grip or grip frame shape onto it, cut them out, file, sand, drill holes for the grip screw, then sand, sand, sand, (very carefully towards the end) until you like the shape. Easy process, but lots of long patient sanding, re-checking and sanding some more.
But that said, I did just upload a new YT picture video on this latest "My Rendition of Doc Holliday's Ivory Handled (Tombstone Movie ver.) 4-3/4 SAA Pistol" that shows a lot of pics of the process of my making the grips, and then a lot of after shots at different angles and lighting conditions. But I'd be more than happy to answer any questions on how I do it, but yeah I just trace, cut, sand and repeat for the most part.

Here's the vid on this latest Doc H pistol... Hope you enjoy it!

Will you choose holster rigs to go with?
I would have to carry that birdshead occasionally.
Beautiful revolvers, tastefully done.

Ironically when I was looking for a holster for the 3.5" I found a Desantis Gunhide "Doc Holliday Holster, Colt SAA 3-1/2". Then coincidentally I made this last rendition on a wild whim, and when looking for a holster for it I found the same type Desantis Gunhide "Doc Holliday Holster, Colt 4-3/4". Totally unplanned and unexpected in both cases. Got the 3-1/2" just over a week ago, and the 4-3/4" a couple days ago.
