About 5 weeks ago I had to send in S&W 327 PC for repairs. It came back today and has new problems.

The most concerning is that when I push the cylinder release the flag on the internal lock goes up and appears to be engaged. When I release the cylinder release it goes back down.

It also now has an uneven B/C gap and endshake that allows the cylinder to contact the forcing cone.

So, why was it sent to S&W in the first place? What did they correct? How long did they keep it?
They had it for 5 weeks. The cylinder was contacting the top strap when closing it and the ratchet was contacting the recoil shield. They fixed that and sent it back with new problems.

Sounds like someone didn’t reassemble it properly. I hate to say it but you need to call them back.

In what way does the release interface with the lock? I don’t know enough about the way it works to even understand how this is happening. Needless to say, this makes me dislike the lock even more. I’ll be calling them in the morning.

The release is right next to the lock. Somehow the release is grabbing on to the lock. Burrs on the lock or release maybe?

When you push the magazine release, does it go forward smoothly or do you feel it scratching and hanging up as it goes forward?

The cylinder release and the Lawyer Lock flag actually slide past each other. A burr on one could well cause your issue.

Pity that they didn't fix your crane issues.

lock companies don't build good guns, and gun companies don't build good locks.

The first photo shows the screwdriver pointing to the *flag* and the second is pointing to the cylinder release bar.

As above, one can imagine that if they interfere with one another (not supposed to) the forward motion of the cylinder release can raise the flag. Either the flag and/or the release bar is flawed or there is debris or improper re-assembly tension causing this.

In any case, I wouldn't mess with it but rather, photo-document and return and politely haggle for some upgrade work for your hassle and their incompetence.

I see more problems from PC smiths than regular ones. How can that be?
I'd say it has more to do with correlation than cause.

Kind of like the *billboards* on Rugers.

The PC aspect merely coincides with falling production or assembly standards as an issue of cost-cutting.

While MANY modern manufacturing techniques and practices unquestionably exceed past examples of the same.... The modern practices don't mandate a skilled inspection/assembly/fitting force as in the past.

That, and rush to production means shortened - if AT ALL present - testing and R&D for the ideas of the PC and penny-pinching crowd of social and mechanical engineers.

Or - even without the locks, billboards and the like, the pistols would still not reach the consmers' hands in the same high-result state of the past.

Too, under the old systems, we would be paying absurd money for a new S&W revolver if they existed at all.

Todd.
