Good evening everyone. I’m a newbie to the forum world. Been watching comments about the 300 Ham’r. I stumbled across this round only a few weeks ago and had to have one. Ordered barrel from W.C., empty cases ,and a set of dies to roll my own. Very impressive. Can’t wait to try it out on a pig. Anybody else have one?

A few 100 fps faster than 300blk and 300-400 fps slower than a 30 Rem AR...should be just fine for pigs just use the right bullet.

It is a slight revision of the older 7.62x40 WT cartridge that Wilson Combat developed to match roughly .30-30 in power that fit in an AR 15 package. The Ham'r is SAAMI approved (the older 7.62x40 isn't) which means that in the future you might be able to get ammo, barrels, etc. from other than just Wilson Combat.

I've fired the older 7.62x40 WT as my FIL bought one years ago when it was new. The .300 Ham'r is on par recoil wise and total foot pounds of energy with the 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC but in .30 caliber and it has a bit more umph than the .300 BO which has dual purpose use--sub and supersonic bullets.

For a hunting round, it is about as much punch with good range, outside of the defunct .30 Remington, that you can get in an AR sized package leaving aside the big bore AR stuff that has a bit less distance so it can shoot bigger and heavier bullets.

Oh, and welcome to the THR, make sure to introduce yourself in the new member subforum. There are enough members around that sooner or later, most of even the oddball questions have someone who knows the answers to around here.

As a 30 cal hunting round in an AR-15 the 300 Ham'R look promising. It sacrifices subsonic capability for enhanced supersonic performance.

I checked it out when i was shopping for my ar. I ended up going with 7.62x39 for ease of getting factory ammo as I dont reload. But I am a huge fan of the short stubby 30 cals in an ar!

stumbled across 300 Ham’r round a few weeks ago. Had to have one. So, I ordered a barrel, brass and dies. Love this round.

I got a little excited about the Ham'r when it came out and then sort of lost interest. Would like to hear your views when you get going. It sort of really makes the MSR the updated equivalent of the Winchester '94.

I'm all for new calibers so the not the merrier!

But I'd love to hear about your loadings when you get it up and running.

Obviously to compare it to other's handloads for 300blk and 7.62x39 as most people will compare it to for obvious reasons.

I think it's supposed to run about 300+ ftlbs of energy more all things being equal.

I shoot a lot of 300AAC, but all supersonic. I want to like the HAMR, but in reality the performance gains don't make it worth it to me to have a heavily constrained supply chain for factory ammo or brass. I already have enough 'seasonal run' chamberings - one of the significant appeals of any AR-compatible chambering, to me, is ease of access to consumables. :)

I got one when they were 1st introduced and am a big fan.
I reload a 110 V Max, 27.0 grains CFE black, 2546 FPS, 1582# energy, and VERY accurate

130 Grain Speer hot core, 27.2 grain CFE Black, 2420 FPS, 1690# energy and again, very accurate

very pleased

Loaded up some Hornady 150 interlock with 25 gr of CFE. Did not chronograph but shot 2 3shot groups at 80 yds measuring .621 and .508. Not bad for a shaky shooter like me. Also loaded some Hornady 150 gr sst with same charge. Nowhere near as tight of group. Gonna get some Speer 130 gr FMHC as what I’ve read is the best all round combo for accuracy and effectiveness.

Can’t wait to test the “ optimal terminal performance” of this round for myself.

I bought the Wilson barrel and built an AR upper. Took a while to get it running as it wouldn't cycle and I sent it back to Wilson and they opened up the gas port, then it started running. It's easy to make brass from 223, just chop the next (most of it) off, reform with an RCBS die, and you're ready to rock. Below shows 223 case, chopped, then formed, with 300 BO for comparison.

for your own benefit, the processes for converting 5.56 to 300 are diverse and well established, and should translate over. I bought a blackout to shoot cast/cheap supers in panics. FWIW the 30M1 Carbine round nose bullets feed fine from a standard AR mag in some rifles, and the ones from RMR shoot good all the way up to the low .308 velocities I have tried them at. I may go the Hamr route when pencil weight barrels are more common. For now, my AAC weights in at 6.5lb loaded, with its Iron sights.

It seems like a good round that was designed to shoot pigs with an AR-15 (HAM) at even 250 yards. I would like to see it with an old-fashioned 130-150 gr Nosler Partition.

Do you know what size Wilson opened the port up to for your barrel? I am having the same issue with mine that is .095" as measured with calipers so probably closer to the declared .099". I've used a lightweight BCG, used the wilson lo-profile has block and a Seekins adjustable which have been lined up perfectly over the gas port, lighter and heavier buffer weights, nothing catches or binds. Only thing I haven't tried is a reduced power bugger spring but that is on the way.

Is that accurate? Only a 100fps more than 300bo? Seems to me one would just go with 7.62x39. With CFE BLK powder velocities have been impressive.

@RevHammer please post some bullet weight and velocities if you have the ability and you get a chance.

How much H2O do the Hammer cases hold?

I’m sure your Wilson Combat barrel will shoot, they make good stuff.

Anybody else have one?
I have a 7.62x40WT, the same thing less the cool name, SAAMI drawing, and 0.035" case length.

With 150gr FMJ, I know AA1680 will work, I've proven AA2230 is a success, and SOCOM Blackout (Lovex D063.02) is too fast to quite push the bolt all the way back. H335 is my next experiment.

Have fun.
