Is anybody going to San Antone?
Picked this up as a new carry gun/duty gun, looks to be inspired by the 1960s Commercial government model. It is a series 70 action and it shoots like a dream! I put 100 rds of Blazer Brass and 7 Winchester PDX 1 rounds with the stock Colt mag and some cheap pro mag and had no failures. Sorry for the bad pics my phone camera sucks. It will be replacing my 629 as my main gun and a 637 Smith will be a backup IMG_20200305_120108_8.jpg IMG_20200303_172226_4.jpg IMG_20200303_172639_6.jpg IMG_20200305_120108_8.jpg IMG_20200303_172226_4.jpg IMG_20200303_172639_6.jpg

Looks great!

I'm leaning towards one for my next purchase!

Either this or the Remington R1

I had the R1 years ago and it was a fine weapon. I traded it for some .44 that is also gone. I have always wanted a legit Colt though so I went with this one. My last Colt experience was not a pleasant one this makes up for it though

They are basically the same as the 80 Series guns with the 80 Series parts removed and a laser engraved rollmark. The rollmarks are not exactly the same as a 60's Commercial Colt. The top gun in this pic is a 1960 era Colt. The lower one is a Colt Classic O1911C On the other side of the slide the rollmarks are completely wrong for a 60's Colt. They come with a National Match Barrel which is nice on paper. I personally can't out shoot a standard factory Colt barrel but its a nice feature on a gun at this price point. Mine shoots very well. If you fitted a match bushing to one of these they would tighten up even more. These are basically replacing the 70 Series Productions. They are not as nicely finished as the 70 series Repros. Those guns had polished flats and the edges weren't as sharp. They were not dehorned but got a little more attention IMHO. These O1911Cs are cheaper. They have sold for as low as $655 + shipping & transfer.

Great gun enjoy it.

Here are some good videos from LAV on the pistols and 2 upgrade paths if you are inclined.

Actually yes I am going to be sending this into Wilson. This is going to be a patrol gun so I want it to get deluxe treatment .

Mine is going to Don Williams of The Action Works. It is going to be a retro sleeper build. Along the lines of the this.

OP, did you pick it up used? AFAIK, the "new" Classic 1911 has already been discontinued, was only out a short while. Replaced by the "Black Army" model, which comes with a long trigger.

I picked up both of these Colts around 8 or 9 years ago. I was really impressed by how well built they were and with their overall fit and finish. The trigger pulls are great on them and they are solidly put together in the slide to frame and barrel to slide fit. I especially liked the feel, balance, and handling qualities of the Lightweight Government, so much so that I also use it in the CCW role. The other Government I bought primarily for use at the range and for testing my various handloads. Hope your new Colt provides you with many years of reliable service.

Why thank you. I have bought some buffalo bone grips for it and hope to have it soon

This is not true. You have it backwards. The Black Army version with the long trigger was a limited run version. 500 were made. They also left the Pony off the slide for some reason. They are discontinued but can still be found NIB.

The Classic model O1911C is in production in 3 calibers. It is now their base model. They have stopped production on the 70 Reproductions. The 80 series will still be produced for market s they need a firing pin safety.

Put another 100 rds yesterday. No malfunctions but I have to hold the gun slightly higher as the herters ammo I bought isn't great out of the Colt. Think I will stick with blazer brass for practice .

What mods are you going to have Wilson do?
