Hello, Soon we will be picking up a very nice older 10/22 deluxe sporter rifle. Wood/blue. What would you recommend for a good scope and rings to go with this rifle?
What would you put on it if it were yours, and why?

It really depends on what you plan to do with it. for pinking or shooting steel targets out to 30 40 yards a red dot is a lot of fun and good for fast target acquisition . for small game hunting I prefer a low power scope. Alot of people will put a 3-9 variable scope on them.

When I got my 10/22 back in the late '70s I could tell from the first time I had it out that it was way more accurate than the iron sights could provide. So I went with a Weaver K2.5 scope because I was using the gun mainly for short range hunting small game and didn't feel the need for higher magnification.

My old 10-22 had an old Sears 4x on it for years, then went to a Varix3 Leupold 2x8 I got in a trade and never removed it.

Looks like the old VX-2 rimfire scopes are replaced with VX Freedom for better or worse

did those old 1989 Rugers come with the same scope rail as they do now? (I am asking what rings I will need between 3/8 and regular weaver mount.) thanks

Man, you got a “real” 10/22. I’d go with some flavor of fixed 4x or maybe a 1-4x variable with a small objective. It’s a handy dandy 10/22, not a precision target rifle or anything you’ll be shooting out past 100 yards with.

Whatever you get, get something with a fine reticle. Man, if I found a rifle like that, I’d throw a small Vortex PST on it.

Vintage Tasco World Class Plus (japan made, of course) in the 6-24 power variety.

I like the Weaver rimfire 3x9 ao and Talley rings that I have on mine .

I also like the Leupold rimfire 2x7 with Leupold rings that I have on my Marlin 60 .

Since you went with those rings, would you need the mediums or lows to go with a 33mm Obj.?

I got the low rings my scope has a 40mm obj. Here's the result.

Both rifles have identical scopes, which I bought when they had a sale at Academy Sports. In the wide, wide world of scopes, they weren't that expensive, but it was a bit of an indulgence for me to buy two of them. Still, I really like them.

My ruger 10/22 has a 4.5 - 18x Nikon Prostaff with a BDC reticle. The centre dot is also
illuminated in either red or green. That BDC reticle is such that if you go on
this Nikon websight and input in the specs on the rounds you are shooting,
it will give you the zeros for each BDC step on the reticle. My 10/22
is a late 70's vintage I bought new. It also has a swivel bipod. These
rifles are quite accurate. I have always liked this rifle. It and a Mini 14 were
the first rifles I bought and I still own them both and shoot them some
40 years after I bought them.

Some of you folks have really nice scopes on your 22's! found a vendor who had a NIB Weaver rimfire 2-7X28 scope. Then I searched one of my boxes and found a basically new old set of Burris zee rings. I think this should be a serviceable setup, though I am tempted to find a gloss Leupold just for kicks.

Nice, sounds like a good setup for a 22. I like the really clean look of the Weaver, even more classic looking than the Leupold I linked.

102217a.jpg I find the proportions of the Burris 4x PA scope fit my 10-22 both for carry and looks. I shoot the CMP rim fire sporter game in the mid 570's low 580's. After the match we shoot a 5" gong offhand at 100 yds which the duplex crosshairs handles better than I do.

I really liked the weaver scopes, but they were discontinued. I like the nikon rimfire scopes, but they were discontinued. I guess that leaves the rather chunky vortex scopes and the overpriced leupold freedoms for rimfire. At least the leupolds are small, because optically, they're only so-so.
