Not-so-big revolvers

I put springs, shims and a little stoning into my first SP101 and it's decent. I just got the 327 on GB and the trigger is the least of my problems.

Speaking of triggers, how about some feedback on the new King Cobra? From the ones I handled at the shop, the KC by far had the nicest trigger in both DA and SA. I know it doesn't have the long production history of the SP101, so the only concern I would have (besides cost) is durability.

If one is looking for a 3" adjustable sighted SP101 Lipsey's has one that just came out:

A SP trigger can, as others have noted, be made considerably better than out of the box. Mine started at 14 lbs DA and after
tuning and springs is down to around 8 lbs according to my Lyman gauge which is less than I could get a Colt Magnum Carry
I had down to. It can also be made smooth throughout the trigger pull so there is no hump in the pull.

If you’re looking for a medium sized trail gun, I don’t think you could go wrong with one of the current crop of S&W K frame police trade ins.

Rugged, accurate, inexpensive, with great S&W triggers. Weather resistant with stainless models.

I am eager to get my hands on a KC to take a look at because I really like the smaller frame revolvers, but in the meantime my SP101 with the 4" barrel and adjustable sights fills this role very nicely. It is easily one of my most accurate handguns with the good sights and long sight radius. It wouldn't be my first choice for CC due to the weight, but in a OWB pancake holster it is quite concealable despite the additional length.

As has been mentioned, the SP trigger can be made pretty decent with some springs, shims, and some polishing of the hammer strut and return spring plunger. It will never be a crisp short throw S&W K-frame trigger, but once cleaned up it is good enough that I can't blame it for my bad groups...

I finally was able to rent an SP101 today and I'm impressed. Trigger was a bit heavy but smooth; as a rental I figure it's smoothed out from years of use. Fixed sights, no problem. I only shot 38 Special but it shot to point of aim with a 6:00 hold. Easy to shoot accurately and the 38's were like little love taps. I figure +P would be a little more substantial, but they didn't have any +P in stock today. I figure magnums will give it quite a kick but I'm able to get a very good grip on it so I'm confident even magnums will be controllable.

Overall a nice little gun. Price difference vs. a KC makes it enticing.

Another vote for the K6s. Almost identical in size to a j frame with a 6 round cylinder and an excellent trigger.

I love my Kimber K6s 3”!
Great trigger, at 27 oz. it’s easy to carry but still controllable in .357, holds 6 rounds and has real sights that are drift adjustable for windage in the rear and replaceable in the front.

The KC is very “ refined” and “polished” ( not literally). You can feel where the extra money went. I should have mine back soon!
