So today I took my 9mm Ruger Carbine to a friend's house to shoot for the first time. All I can say is WOW I haven't had that much fun in a very long time. It's moved up into my top 3 favorite guns I own.

I shot ~125 rounds of 3 different ammos all brass cased and it shot the 115gr GECO best. I didn't care for WWB at all. It shot the Browning 124gr ammo good just not as good as GECO.

I used the Glock mag insert and Magpul 21 round Glock mags. Had 100% reliable function without one single hiccup. I put a Burris 1-5x 30mm scope on it and I was impressed for its accuracy. This is 6 rounds at 50 yards. 20200307_123930.jpg I could not be happier with this rifle. After this I just shot at rocks, coke cans, bottle caps, etc. And we had a ball just blasting everything across his range lol.

If you guys are debating a Ruger Carbine take the plunge and you won't regret it.

I bought one several weeks ago, but I have not had the chance to get it to the range yet.

Heck of a group! What did your WWB groups look like? I haven't shot mine for accuracy yet, but it hits the dead center of the plates just fine at 20ish yards :D

The group was more like a pattern lol. It was at least 2 inches and the POI was a few inches higher on the target than the GECO ammo. The recoil and report was noticeably weaker than any of the ammo I shot too.

Took my Ruger PCC to a church men's retreat a while ago. It drew a lot of interest and at least a couple of guys put one on their wish list. All were ringing steel at 100 with the TRS-25 red dot. Lot's of guys had Glocks, and really liked the Glock magazine compatibility. Definitely a fun gun.

Very nice shooting with that Geco ammo! I was looking at a Ruger 9mm Carbine just last weekend and thought it would be a fun gun to have.

Nice shooting!

I took my PC Carbine to the range Saturday. I also consider it to be my favorite long gun. I have a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 red dot on mine with the tall mount so I can see the irons as well as the red dot. I am considering lowering it with a QD mount. The tall mount makes for awkward aiming.
Funny thing is, I had not considered mounting a scope on it. That might be an option.

I definitely have a lot of fun with mine.

The more I keep seeing these Ruger carbines, the more I think I need to buy one.

Quick question unrelated to OP's thread, but @Legionnaire's post got me thinking. I remember for years and years, the TRS-25 was the internet's gold standard for entry-level red dots. Is that still the case, or are there new products in the field that are worth looking at? I only have one red-dotted rifle right now, but if I did get a PC9, I'd want to make it two.

I had mine out this weekend too for another ~150 rounds with no malfunction just like the other ~350 rounds. All of mixed 115 to 147 solid and hollow but all brass.

Nephew shot it for the 1st time and said it's his favorite gun of all he's shot ever.

Qualifying statement: He's early 20s and not a lot of experience but has shot a variety of glocks over a few years and at least 1 AR15, mini 14, a few 22lr rifles and pistols,.....20ga pump and 12ga couch for the 1st time yesterday.

I took my original model (Fluted/threaded barrel) out Friday, it was punching holes in the 10-ring and head of B-27 silhouettes out
to 25 yds (Max at the indoor range)

I left mine open-sighted, but painted the front post white-then-blaze orange with Testors paint. This makes the post pop out on targets (other than orange ones!) I also use the Glock magazine insert, so far 100% reliable with WWB 115 and 124 gr FMJ, Ranger SXT +P+ 127 gr JHP, Blazer brass 115gr FMJ, Rem 115 FMJ and Golden Saber 147 BJHP and Hornady 115 Critical Defense Standard and +P.

With the PC, two things I’ve noticed: Make sure the barrel nut stays snug when reassembled after cleaning, and make sure the stock screws stay tight. My guns stock bolts have worked a bit loose a couple of times, so blue LocTite was applied and all Is good.
The PC’s are guns for sure!!

My Carbine is also the fluted and threaded barrel version. Thanks for the tip on watching the stock screws and to watch the barrel nut. I haven't touched the barrel nut on mine and I don't guess I will unless the rifle starts giving problems.

I haven't shot any type of hollow point yet just all FMJ. When I get to the 250 round mark (won't be long) ;) I'll try some of my preferred 124 HSTs in it. If they prove reliable and accurate this rifle will be my wife's first choice at home in the event she needs a gun to defend herself. I'll probably use it as a range toy and for the pesky skunks and Armadillos I get in my yard every year.

The Federal HST 150 gr micro load is my load of choice for my LC9, I won’t be surprised if the 124 gr HST load works well through the PC.

Get her familiar with the gun and it’s function and you’ve made a great gun/load combo choice for the wife for a HD firearm!

Stay safe.

I don't think you can do much better than the TRS-25 for that price range, but I would like to make a recommendation.

The Vortex Spitfire 1x. (Not the AR version.) It's a prism scope, so it's not unlimited eye relief. However, the reticle is etched and does not require batteries. (Battery needed for illuminated of course.) The view is much clearer, since you don't need the coatings for the dot.

Cabelas has them for $250 and they've gone on sale for $150 before.

I love the 1x on mine. Don't get the 3x. Not enough eye relief for the PC9.

Did you not adjust it per the manual?

No I haven't touched the barrel nut at all. It locked up tight, had 100% function, and was very accurate. Why touch something that ain't broke.

The PC CARBINE™ rifle has an adjustable lock-up mechanism. The following directions describe the adjustment necessary to ensure proper lockup the first time the barrel is installed. After the first adjustment, the barrel may be installed by following step 2 only.

Mine came with the barrel 'installed for the first time' and seem already adjusted to lock up fine... as well or better than my 10/22 TD.

Because the instructions tell you to adjust it.
My rifle was assembled on the rack when I bought it so maybe the LGS adjusted the barrel nut tension before I ever touched it. Who knows but with my results of my Ruger PC Carbine I'm not sure I could "fix" something that obviously isn't broken. I don't care what Rugers instructions say.

It sounds like it was dialed in at the store, you're good.
Like any screw, they can work loose. Just keep an eye on it and you'll be golden :).
I have a TRS-25 on a couple of AR-15's, they have been fantastic with those guns. I see no reason they wouldn't shine on a PC9 as well ;).

Stay safe.

I had an original PC4. If it had taken Glock magazines, I’d still have it. Great gun.
