I thought they were going to stop making them?. I just don't like there's no bolt lock. Light rifles can be hard to shoot accurately.
They have stopped making them (they say suspended) due to fulfilling govt contracts. I have access to a couple, thats why I was asking. Theres still quite a few for sale on the online gun sales though.

From what I saw they look well done, like mcmxi I can't get over no bolt lock. Are the ones you see discounted any.

I've not even handled one, but based on reports from those who have they seem like a very high quality rifle. I've not heard a single real complaint. They are out of my price range, but that isn't a complaint. If you like them, and can afford one I don't think you'd make a bad choice.

And while I do prefer to have a bolt that locks down, it isn't a deal breaker for me.

Man I bet you weirdos like locks on your front doors too! :p

I finally saw a bolt open on its own a couple years ago. I've got enough "good" rifles that the fieldcraft isn't super high on my list right now, but the locking bolt thing still won't stop me if (when) I decide I want one lol.

I just think for the price one can get what they want, I'd rather a crf action for the money.

Oh totally!
Kimbers aren't as expensive for instance, but offer a cfr action.
The wing safety (of all things) is the only real design detractor for me.

While i certainly don't mind a locking bolt, it's not critical for me, but if your gonna spend that much you should buy what you really want.

I own more than a few Kimbers but CRF isn't that important to me. The locking bolt handle is though and it's non-negotiable for me these days. I don't mind the wing style safety, in fact, with my four Accuracy International rifles and four Kimbers I have eight total with that configuration. The Fieldcraft is certainly a well executed rifle but Barrett had the luxury of looking at everything on the market and correcting some of the perceived deficiencies. They basically made a push feed version of the Kimber 84M and 84L but were smart enough to offer a 3.0" magazine box on the short action. Their long action box length is still too short for some folks who want the bullet on the lands, or the option at least. As I said, had they found a way to include a locking bolt handle I would almost certainly own one and probably two.
