Has anyone ever purchased a firearm after seeing it in a movie or on tv?

As a kid I fell in love with the German Lugers seen so often on TV and in the movies. Had quite a few Luger squirt guns as a kid. Averaged one every summer and as I wore them out I began saving for my next one. Then I grew up and decided real Lugers had become too pricey. Wound up inheriting a real one from an uncle who had brought it here in 1945 and I never knew it existed until a few years before he passed when it finally came out of his closet. Then a couple years ago I came across a Luger squirt gun in an on-line for sale forum. Cost me about 20 bucks but it was worth it to complete the "collection". This one's not as authentic looking as the ones I had in my childhood but it has that natural "pointability" that Lugers are known for. It's also a valuable asset for a squirt gun. A dream realized. Seeing your Luger squirt gun I don't feel so bad about the Han Solo blaster from Star Wars I bought to go with my Mauser C96 Broomhandle . And no I am not a Star Wars nerd . I liked 1st one and 2nd one back in 70s-80s but lost interest after that . Before anyone corrects me I know they are chapters/parts 6 or 7 whatever . I have been informed more then once from my kids-grankids on that debate ~!!!!!!

The Ana Coulder DVD got me interested. (you too maybe) I was able to find "Hannie Coulder" over at swapadvd.com
I requested Raquel be sent to me when a copy shows up for swap.
Unfortunately the DVD jacket cover that was posted by WestKentucky is not the cover that is displayed on the swap site. That picture deserves to be framed and posterized.
Seeing guns and such on TV and in the movies tend to excite me just like pictures on THR. You can see why I buy stuff that interests me when it appears on any media.

Aw man here we go...
James Bond? Had to pick up a PPK/s in .380. I know it wasn’t a ppk in .32 but I rationalized that .380 could work for a CCW far better than a .32.
Saving Private Ryan? Searched for and found my first Garand (1/44 correct) that could have seen Normandy, and has accompanied me to Camp Perry several times.
Cannon, Hawaii Five 0, Rockford Files, etc.? A Colt detective and a S&W 36 followed home over the years.
Last of the Mohicans? A repro short land model Brown Bess, (Yeah, it should be a long land, but...) and a Tulle de chasse that I’m putting together now.

One more . It was years after the fact but seeing the 1847 Colt Walker in Josey Wales always was cool and finally about 1995 got a Armi San Marcos one . Still shooting it .
I dug the Walkers but, it was his hold-out 1849 that really got me!

"Abe, watch out.

-He's probably got another pistol--"

Loves me some Colt *Pockets*.

I chuckled at the "Ana Caulder" poster,,,
I wonder what country that poster was from?

It's supposed to be Hannie Caulder.

I make gun leather as a side business and hobby,,,
Several years ago a lovely young server at my favorite watering hole,,,
Asked me if I had a gun belt and holster she could borrow for her Halloween costume.

She said she had something in mind,,,
Then showed me a picture of Raquel Welsh in costume.

This was the picture she showed me,,,

Needless to say I dove on that project like a starving man on a ham sandwich,,,
This is the rig I let her borrow for the costume party.

.

Nice of you go post that photo but I feel that we’d all like to see how that costume turned out...
What’s that THR saying? Photos or it didn’t happen?

Doggone it if all this Hannie Caulder talk didn't get me to wondering.

And there it IS, on Amazon Prime. Loolking forward to watching it again and especially the parts with her and Robert Culp.

Curious to see if it holds up as well as I recall.

I got my love of S&W revolvers and snubbies, in general, from old detective and police movies and shows. I have S&W revolver models 10, 19 & 36 because of various shows and movies. When I was a kid my Dad was convinced I was going to be a police officer. I was a but for shows like “F.B.I.” “Adam 12” and “Hawaii Five-O”. I thought the S&W model 27 was super cool because a saw a rerun of “The Killers” with Lee Marvin. That is one of my future acquisitions...but I will skip the “silencer”. ;) I also desire an S&W model 25 all because of The Joker in one of the Batman movies. Of course, mine would have a more reasonable barrel length.

I am am sure I have my love of lever guns from watching Westerns. I got into Cowboy Action Shooting because of Westerns.

Hanna Coulder is on HULU for free if you have that service. Watched it last night. Thought the making of a gun for her was un-realistic especially due to the primitive conditions in back country Mexico. Making a barrel with just the use of a forge and a hammer is impossible to me. Plot of the movie was very predictable, but enjoyable due to the starring role.

All the time. Every time I watch the departed, I pull out my PPK. Every time I watch Blood Diamond, I look at G26 again and on and on.... it doesn’t drive my “tool” choices, but it does inspire some of my hobby choices.

A little off subject but when my son was little and I wanted to get him a cowboy six gun and holster like the tv westerns it took forever cause nobody carried those EVIL TOY GUNS . But he bought himself a goodbadugly 45 revolver with the snake on the handle few years back . Can't remember the maker of it . Cool gun but thought was a little over priced but I am a tight wad . He is 26 now .

I do have one pic I can share though,,,
Another server at my watering hole asked if I could help her do Lara Croft.

We ordered 2 Lara Croft Airsoft pistols,,,
I made this rig for them.

croftrig-lr.jpg

A $500.00 hand-made rig for $50.00 worth of Airsoft pistols,,,
It was a fun project for me.

Here's the picture she sent me from the costume contest.

laracroft-final-lr.jpg

She didn't win the first place prize though,,,
So I let her keep the rig.

Maybe watching Combat in the 60's influenced my desire to get a Garand from the DCM many years later. I'm sure that Jeremiah Johnson, and other mountain man movies, fueled my muzzle loader "accumulation". The Sharpe's series of books and movies had me wanting a Baker rifle but sadly I've aged past that one.
Still, I would like a Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range if I can find one... ;)
