My wife and I are most likely going to Las Vegas NV this July for our anniversary. I want to go to "The Gun Store", to shoot full auto guns. Has anyone been there? What can you tell me about it? I know I'll never own a full auto weapon, but I'd dearly love to shoot one.

I haven't heard about that place, but have shot full auto weapons. I'd say save up some money and shoot whatever you are curious about. You will get an experience of a lifetime.

I have not been there but my friend has gone twice. He said it was cool and that he enjoyed it, but if you go when it’s crowded (weekend maybe) there might be a long wait.

From close friends who have been, gong during off-peak ties is definitely a plus.
Be prepared, the prices are a bit spendy, and for not very many rounds, either. So pre-booking their package deals can be better for your pocket.

I have been to both The Gun Store and Battlefield Vegas, both places are great plan on spending around $75 to $100 per gun for one mag of ammo. If you go when it's busy they will want to rush you through it. Both places are great but Battlefield Vegas was friendlier and the ride in the hummer beats a cab ride.

The Gun Store, Battlefield Vegas, Range 702, and American Shooters are all fun local rental ranges catering primarily to the visitor market, I believe they all rent full auto weapons and a variety of other firearms as well. I've shot at all of them (Las Vegas resident) from time to time. Its a lot of fun, and the RO's are usually pretty experienced and stress safety- i've taken a variety of non-shooters including clients from Europe and Asia before and they've really enjoyed it. Call around for the best price and the experience you want.

If you have your sights set on any particular platform (MP5, Thompson, AK etc). i'd visit the websites of each, see what they have available and then call ahead to make sure they are up and running. These guns see a lot of rounds through them and occasionally are taken out of service for repairs. Have fun!

We have a timeshare in Las Vegas which we doubled due to Raiders moving to Vegas (No, not a fan of the team but so we can better trade for other destinations with Raider fans).

Wife suggested I go shoot full auto at the LV ranges and I told her, I got to fire M16s and M60s to my heart's desire at tax payers expense in the Army. If I shot full auto at my expense to my heart's desire, we would have to cut our week long vacation with $5,000 - $7,000 budget to like 1-2 days. Do you know how many lobsters I could eat at that price? ... I mean, not counting all you can eat lobster buffets. :D

For those interested in full auto "like" experience and A LOT of ammo to shoot, there's the binary trigger option. ;)

I lived very close to The Gun Store, but it was called "Target Alley" in 1977. I shot my first full auto weapons there soon after I turned 21. There was a Metro PD officer, who just died recently, who brought in all kinds of interesting toys. The first one was a Thompson 1927 .45 with the big drum magazine. He said "Anyone want to shoot it? Just buy some ammo and have at it!". I put 4 boxes through it that day and if I had more money, I would have shot more. Next was a 9mm Uzi which was a lot of fun, and finally a Nazi StG44, which I put 60 rounds through very quickly. I spent a lot of time and money there from 1977 until 1982, when I moved away.

You should go there and pay the price for the fun you'll have. You'll never forget it!

I honestly have never understood the appeal of shooting fully automatic weapons.

The first time I ever fired a machine gun was an M60 in basic training and to be perfectly honest it was pretty anti-climatic. I was over it by the end of US Weapons week in Basic Training.

Maybe if they let us shoot watermelons or giant pumpkins.

My long former GF's dad was a sniper in Israel, and we took his huge ex-Nazi rifle out in the desert one time, and blew away rotten fruit they gave us at the grocery store. It was actually pretty easy to hit a head sized melon at a couple hundred yards with the giant scope on it. That was about the only time I got along with him, and the only time I was complimented (Well, sort of)because I have very steady hands. Still do. I can't see like I used to, but I have zero shake.

I really want to fire a fully automatic MP5. That's on my bucket list.
I carried the Mp5 and Mp5k for many years.

The Mp5 is super controllable. The Mp5k “pdw” has a drum “u” rear sight rather than the peep so I didn’t find it quite as accurate to shoot...and since it fires so fast (900 rpm) the smaller k is a lot tougher to control on full auto.

The k is a lot more compact than the Mp5 so it did work fantastically for dignitary protection details, especially when I was driving. ;)

I’ll agree with lots of others who all say the Mp are one outstanding firearm series! Good luck with your quest to fire one.

Stay safe.

Yes. Sometime circa 2000, so take my review with a grain of salt as things have probably (hopefully) changed.
Went with the wife since we were in Vegas anyway. It must've been maintenance day because half the f/a stuff was out for service. Staff was nice enough except for one dude who kept dogging my wife to shoot too, even when she made it clear she had no desire to do so. I shot their M16 (9mm) and the MP5. On the firing lanes, they insist on inserting the magazines into their guns, then handing them to you action open (uh, ok). They also insist on hanging silhouette targets upside down. I get that they probably deal with mostly tourist yahoos and they need to protect themselves and their inventory from idiots, but they asked how much experience with firearms I had and I answered honestly, "a lot". Apparently they hear that differently then it's meant.

Looking at their website now, they have a lot more f/a offerings. I'd probably give this place another shot but I rarely get to Vegas anymore.

Been there. Shooting the mp5 was like shooting airsoft as it was so controllable. The Thompson was more interesting.

Both of course were fun

Been there, shot up a bunch of Osama targets. Remember to aim at the bottom of the target to eventually hit his head. Fierce muzzle rise with a Thompson.

Not a place to honeymoon but twice a year Knob Creek is a the Meccca for Machine gunners. It’s unbelievable.
