Mixing dies & shellholders okay?

I use them interchangeably but some are different heights as noted. If you have a problem measure the deck height.
I also have ground a couple down for more sizing but marked them as such so I remember.

Could you elaborate a bit on what the difficulty is?

I have found RCBS shell holders to be a bit looser fitting. Otherwise, I use RCBS, Hornady, and Lee shell holders without issues in my Rock Chucker press.

I have to really finesse the cases to get them to enter the die. I mainly use it for 300 Blackout but it does the same thing with .223 brass.

I think it's more of a tolerance stacking issue than anything else.

A bit loose on the RCBS shell holder makes the RCBS shell holder my favorite shell holder. Rational? I size cases that are minimum length/full length sized to + .014" to -.012" meaning I sized cases for long and short chambers.
To accomplish this I have to be able to measure the length of the chamber from the shoulder/datum to the bolt face and the length of the case from the shoulder/datum to the case head. I use the feeler gage for adjusting the die to the shell holder.

and then there are tight fitting shell holders, I can not find a post (anywhere) that discuss 'good fitting shell holders. I have good fitting shell holders, they offer the reloader a couple of advantages. And I can turn the loose fitting shell holder into a good fitting shell holders; problem, it slows me down.

My input is maybe.

I have a RCBS shell holder for .223 that refuses to work in my Hornady press with Hornady dies. If I use the correct Hornady shell holder everything is fine.

It is possible the Hornady shell holder is a loose fitting sheholder. I suggest you measure the deck height of the shell holders. If the deck height for the RCBS shell holder is correct you have other problems.
