Taurus TX22

I was under the impression that Taurus already knows about and fixed the barrel issue. The issue supposedly involved a batch of out sourced barrels. I can see if I can find the thread I saw about it.... Going forward, this should not be anything anyone has to worry about. Members on the Taurus forum stated that they talk to Taurus CS, and they confirmed the issue has been resolved.

I noticed extremely quick lead fouling, and used a borescope to find that the rifling looks like a one eyed drunk guy who lost his glasses did it. I called them yesterday, and asked if what I have read online is true about the first barrel vendor making bad barrels, and they confirmed. They have since found a new barrel vendor, and advised that they are sending me a new barrel, and 2 free 16 round mags for my trouble. :) I was surprised at how friendly and intelligent the rep. I dealt with was. Keep in mind the replacement barrel is on backorder, as they dont ship barrels from the first vendor anymore. I gotta say, after 3,000 rounds, this is one of my favorite of several pistols I own. They knocked it out of the park on this, except for the barrels. I generally never buy first gen of any product, but did with this, as it was only $180 after rebate, so I'm not pissed about the barrel thing, because I went against my 1st gen policy. I did just shoot it today after cleaning out the lead fouling from a couple days ago, and after 100 rounds it started shooting 12 inches left and 14 inches high at 5 yards. It appears as though the rifling is deteriorating rapidly. I bet they are suing the hell out of that barrel manufacturer, I would.

I've decided my TX22 will make an excellent target for my next gun.

I'm leaning that way too. I had three replacement barrels provided by Taurus with a fourth coming when they get them in stock.

First barrel (bad rifling causing extreme leading) and an off center chamber was replaced after sending it into Taurus...came back with a replacement just as bad as the original (bad rifling causing leading but chamber was ok)
Sent it in again and they told me they had new barrels being manufactured that would be good quality. Once they got some in they installed it and sent it back to me...had bad rifling causing leading.
Contacted them and they told me they would send out a barrel again from a supposedly batch of good barrels they were getting...when it came it bad rifling causing extreme leading and an off center chamber
Contacted them a couple of days ago and got the following reply which I found odd because that is what they told me about the previous two barrels.

I do apologize for this. I will have to place you on backorder at this time. We are working with a new vendor for better quality barrels and we are waiting to get them in. I can place it on backorder for you and once they become available we will get it shipped to you.

"Hey, Greg, send this dumb sucker the 'new barrel vendor' letter, willya?"

I bought this pistol a month ago. With family and work it took me until today to fire it for first time. loaded two mags of CCI standard velocity(later tried other ammo co. And another mag) put the mag in, aimed fired very accurate hit first round......did not extract shell and Jammed up very tight, finally cleared empty brass....well I ended up doing this 11-12 times in a row.....I am furious and should of know better to buy anything Taurus semi auto. I have contacted Taurus and the label for a “fix” is on its way the wait they say is 10-12 weeks. I wanted to like this pistol, but now it’s nothing but “I told you so, don’t buy Taurus” I don’t want a new fixed pistol. All I wanted was new working gun. Taurus has really disappointed me today.
My 10/22 is finicky about what is fed...
22lr and semiauto firearms ... Is hard to mix ..

Fourth barrel is up to 850 rounds total: no leading noted (after the initial mess noted previously), shiny bore. However, the rifling is difficult to see, and seems to decrease the more I shoot it. It shoots straight though. I’ll be at the NRA Annual Meeting in April, and will talk with Taurus representatives, with all the barrels.

My TX22 bore decreased into a mess too, after approx. 4k rounds. Hope you didn't get another bad barrel. Please tell the Taurus reps. to get these new barrels out fast, or they will lose 1st time customers like me forever, like they are about to do with me. I took a leap of faith on their crappy reputation; great gun, bad execution.

About 250ish through mine. Love it! Bought it as a low Recoil trainer for my M&P9 compact. So far a good decision.

One failure to feed. Far better performance than my Buckmark.

30ft, 5 rounds, and I'm not a good shot. Common six Target array IMG_20191226_132615.jpg

As a Glock Advanced Armorer, brass can fly back onto the shooter, when the pistol is held poorly, which is usually the case, or when a shooter takes a .40 S&W Glock and sticks a 9mm barrel on it (I have seen that), or converts a .357 Sig Glock to a .40 S&W and vice versa. Firearm owners do many foolish things with firearms: firearms are not Legos or erector sets.
Bah ha... so I suppose my bone stock Gen 4 Glock 30 that launches brass back at me, to the right, to the LEFT, and within a 5 foot radius in every direction is due to my limp-wristing the gun huh...

That's funny. I have a gen 3 glock 30 that beans me at times. If I shoot full power reloads it will kick them out to right. If I download them a little they come flying back at me quite a bit. It's my only handgun that does that.

I do not know how you hold the pistol. It seems that the Gen 3 did not have the cycling problems the Gen 4 has. I had a Glock 30; I sold it, as it did not function well for me. It did not have failures to fire or feed, but its extraction was similar to your situation.

I just got my new barrel, it took about 3 months to get I think. I checked it with a borescope and it looks legit. I can start shooting it again. If the new barrel holds true, this will be a fantastic 22lr pistol for the money. NEVER jams, and shoots everything. The Walther is better, just made better, but also cost $100 more. Had the barrel not been screwed up, I would've stopped here.

There was a thread about the Taurus on Glocktalk I think and one forum member owned the TX22 and a Ruger Mark series 22 pistol. He said that the TX22 was a whole lot of fun as a plinker but did not hold a candle to his Ruger as far as accuracy.
My sentiments as well. The lightweight and feel of the TX22. Trigger is nice out of the box. Eats everything. Barrel replacement on order for over a month to date. Great plinkster. Very "portable" and light...fun.

For more serious target, hunting, accuracy, the Ruger is awesome. Much more consistence shot placement and accuracy imo. I have the Mark 4 target with 5 1/2" bull barrel. However, I have put in extras: a volquartsen trigger, fiber optic sight which I do no use as I use a Bushnell Trophy red dot scope on a piccatiny rail , and a handle charger. Altogether mucho mas dinero. Depends on your needs/intended use, if you can only have one.

Sure makes a box of federal aitomatch disappear. Out of 325 rounds this morning had 4 that ejected and did not pick up another round. Racked slide and kept going. Mine is leading a bit with blazer, terrible with Remington thunderbolts but I hate sending it in as so much fun.

Any chance I wonder if they would just send barrel out. I clean with choreboy after 3 or 4 hundred rounds which kinda stinks as I have 22s I dont think I ever cleaned.

Man, I must be the luckiest TX22 owner on this Forum. I bought a TX22 back in early 2019 and had a problem with the magazines which Taurus replaced in 10 day's. Since then I have shot 2000 rounds through it with one malfunction. I bought a second one because of the great performance of the first. as of yesterday 1200 rounds through that one. No barrel chattering or undue leading with CCI Mini-Mags, Blazer, or Golden Bullets. They're by no means a Ruger Target MKII, but very accurate. The Ser#'s are a six thousand range and 64000 range. I'm not a dyed in the wool fan of Taurus. I bought a number of pistols and revolvers from them in the late 80's, nothing since before the TX22's. I'm really glad I bought mine. I was going to by a G44 until I heard all the negative report's. Maybe next year if they get the issues worked out, although I think they are way over priced for a 10 shot .22 that really has no redeeming features other than it's name. IMG_3703.JPG

Oh it is a fun gun. I bet mine would be happy with any plated forever but thunderbolts are cheap and they should work.

They will just send you a new barrel. They also sent me 2 free mags for the trouble. I only shoot plated 22 out of it now, as Thunderbolt still causes lead fouling, although not as much as the Gen 1 barrel. I have about 3k rounds through the Gen2 barrel, and the borescope shows it as new, so I think the new barrel vendor probably did a good job. But yeah, they are fun as hell.

Is there barrel issues?

Is there barrel issues?
Yes. With the initial shipments of the guns, many/all have bad rifling in the barrels which make them foul with lead. The manufacturer fired the vendor who made those barrels, and will replace those barrels for free. If you don't shoot alot, it could take some time to notice it. I shoot 2k+ a month for pistol training, so I saw it right away. It took me about 2 months to receive my new barrel, but may be faster now?

No, not faster now.

Spoke with a Taurus Customer Service rep today. The barrels are on back order with an unknown delivery time. The best Taurus can do at the moment is place you on the list, first come, first served.

I first fondled the TX22 at NRAAM in Indy. just love the gun. I wouldn't mind someone coming out with inexpensive replacement sights, but really for a low cost 22LR trainer I find it perfect.

I am disappointed Taurus didn't do a better job with Quality Control. The TX22 is a winner on many fronts. With their reputation however; you can't have a misstep like this with a hugely popular product. The most basic quality control system should have caught these barrels and rejected them.

So, until I get the replacement barrel, looks like I'll be shooting less and cleaning more...

It amazes me that many on this thread defend Taurus. They knowingly put a firearm on the market with a barrel that looks like a six year old made it, a recoil assembly that grinds away the front of the slide until it cracks. They haven't got the barrel problem solved yet and it's been a year and a half. They still haven't admitted or done anything to solve the poorly designed recoil assembly and some still defend them? It takes Taurus 8-12 weeks to returned a broken firearm. And they don't solve the problem, they just replace the poorly designed broken parts with the same poorly designed parts. One poster even stated that it was a far better then a Browning buckmark, That's like saying my Yugo is far better than my Mercedes. The reason Taurus is near or at the bottom of firearm world in both poorly designed guns and the worst customer service is that their customers let them get away with it. As long as Taurus knows that most of their customers just settle for their crap they will never clean up their act.

OK, so don't buy one. I've had my first one for a year now. No faulty barrels or undue wear on any part. Actually more complaining about the Glock 44. I'm not defending, I'm reporting. Your free to hate any gun maker you want. Vent, be my guest. My Yugo's run great! YUGO SKS.png

I did buy one. This after 4500 rds. When it came back after 11 weeks 32 rds fired by Taurus and the new slide was already gouged. I would love to see your perfect Taurus Barrel, since I've never seen one yet. While you're at it I would like to see the inside of your slide. So the Glock has barrel issues? Haven't heard that anywhere. I assume the Glock also has a poorly designed recoil assembly that grinds the slide away. Haven't heard that either. More complaints about the Glock than the TX22, really believe that do you?

Actually, I don't care. I wouldn't have bought a second TX22 if the first had shown extensive wear or a bad barrel, now would I? The G44 is kind of blah to me, a 10 shot .22 with a Glock trigger? A BERSA T22 is better for less money. It seems you like Taurus bashing. I don't care about that either. I'm not a Brand fan of Taurus. My carry guns are all CZ. The TX22 is a neat, reliable .22. It seems the bad barrels and slide gouging missed my two. If I'm target shooting I use a Ruger MKII or a CZ Kadet Kit. For general plinking or as a wood's gun the TX22 shines. I just cleaned and inspected my first TX22 and the barrel and slide are fine. 3700 rounds or so. When does the bad barrel and slide gouging show up?
