I purchased some .356 diameter 9mm bullets from luckygunner today after reading .356 will work similar to .355 bullets in most guns. I read a few posts the last few days before ordering but was curious if anyone had any experience with these particular .356 121 gr JHP's in a auto 9mm/glock magazine'd 9mm upper for my AR pistol? Anything special I should do or look for if so? Ive reloded for many years but not as much in the last few years due to raising small children so any help/insight would be appreciated.

They'll work just fine. Lots of folks use them and .357" jacketed bullets in 9mm. Zero makes an excellent bullet, many are known for their excellent accuracy.

Few 9mm barrels measure .355" groove diameter. Most are larger, measuring .356-.357". SAAMI specs for 9mm barrels are 0.355" to 0.359".

Dang. I didnt even consider .357 bullets. I have those for my .357 revolver and lever action...thanks fellows

9mm bullets typically come sized .355" to .356" - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...re-sized-the-same.818806/page-2#post-10567453

Use of larger sized .356" bullets benefits accuracy if your barrel is oversized at .357"+ instead of more common .355"-.356" groove-to-groove diameter.

Depending on headstamp and case wall thickness, use of larger sized bullets can address neck tension issue that could cause bullet setback - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...neck-tension-and-bullet-setback.830072/page-4

I did that with some random speer 158s I had a while back. I'd watch for issues with chambering as the revolver bullets (at least the heavier ones) stick down farther and will bulge the cases a bit when loaded to not hit the lands. My Witness P-S had no issues, but i could see it being a problem.

Yes, the longer bullets can be an issue with 9mm brass. Even some of the 147 grain 9mm (e.g. Hornady) and heavy 158 grain bullets (e.g. IMI, Fiocchi, PPU) made especially for the 9mm have a tapered base (boat tail) to avoid bulging 9mm cases. Some heavy 9mm bullets that are not tapered can be swaged in some brands of cases.

.357 bullets don't have that taper and if they are long (heavy) they can bulge the 9mm case - especially jacketed bullets because they don't swage easily.

Whoa! Shortages are the Forbidden Topic in this forum. Why? I don't know, but this discussion will be shut down in a sec.

If yall are serious and i posted some terminology I wasnt supposed to I apologize. I'm new...But, definitely tried to read up on rules when I first joined. If this happens to be the case and someone can send me in the right direction on other possible "Don't (s)" other than religious/abortion type topics (saw these) I be very appreciative. Or shoot me a message if that works better. Its been close to a decade since I've posted on a forum. Thanks

What shortage?

The ones created when people buy things they don’t really need or even know will work for them. Not unlike buying enough toilet paper to fill that extra bedroom even though you couldn’t use that much in the next ten years.

People will think it’s funny giving away 30 packs for Christmas despite causing someone that could actually use it now to go without.

Like this one from a few days ago.

Components are as hard to get as TP... Sportsman only had 1lbs and I got 1 per day... I did pick up small pistol Magnum primers, all they had left. You can use those in normal loads right? Just dial the load down a smidge?

Don’t know what you need or even if you can safely use it? Clear the shelves of it to ensure no one else can get any...even if they know what they are after.

I have some of the Speer 135gr.
Seemed to work good enough in my 9's, but placing my loaded rounds in a 9mm SAAMI min. case gauge wasn't exactly a 'positive experience'.
As long as they 'plunk' correctly, there's no reason to fret.

I use .356 MBC LRN in my LC9, they work great for me! Don’t have a clue about FMJ as I only reload boolits.
Good luck!

I run .358 cast bullets in Glock and CZ chambers without issue so there's another option. No experience with a PCC but it would be worth a try since they're available in bulk.
