I need some recommendations on handguns to help me decide what my next purchase will be. I’m wanting either a full size/duty or a compact in the Glock 19 size range. All my handguns are sub compact pockets 380 size, the largest I own is a Glock 43. So a compact size gun would seem like a full size to me. I plan to use this as a home defense, truck gun, range gun etc. I would like a light on the front so a rail is a must. I’m leaning towards a compact size so I can still conceal carry if needed to but since I have a Glock 43 maybe I should just get a full size. Maybe y’all can shed some light on this and help me decide. Price range I would like to not go over $600 so I have some room for a light and extra mags. Thanks in advance guys!

this coming Tuesday, i will be picking up a new Canik TP 9 SF, under $400.

although, i "fear" the current run on gun sales, may bang up this price shortly

For that size and capacity range category, the 19 is the only size Glock I've ever considered, though I never bought one.

I do have a Taurus G2C that ticks in at just a bit smaller, but still larger than a G43. So, yeah, if I wanted bigger, but not G17 big, the G19 would be it.

Some good prices floating around on the Ruger SR9. Discontinued tho

hey smokepole14, since you posted your question in the “handguns: general discussion” subforum, allow me to suggest a 357/38 double action revolver. you clearly know your way around handguns already. why not change it up a bit? in the past 1-2 weeks ive seen 357/38 revolver ammo in more abundance than semiauto pistol ammo. revolvers can be fun too. for your $600 budget you can get something nice. since i have never spent more than $250 for a fine used s&w or new taurus 38sp double action revolver, others are better qualified to suggest particular models.

I tried the Glock 19, along with the S&W M&P Compact, and the SA XD Sub-Compact but didn't care for their ergonomics. I have small size hands and found what I was looking for with a CZ P01, a CZ P07, and a Ruger SR9c. All three have a very comfortable grip design, great ergonomics, are compact in size, easy to conceal carry, and have a rail for mounting a light. If you want to go slightly larger but still smaller than a full size service pistol you might want to check out a used SIG P229R.

I have a Taurus 38 special model 80 with a 4 in barrel. I’ve considered looking into a Ruger LCR I wouldn’t mind another revolver.

I’ve always wanted a CZ pistol I’ve never held one though. I hear they have very comfortable grips and point naturally. I’m kinda curious about the Ruger security 9. I just really want a gun with more mag capacity than my G43. Thanks for the reply’s, Maybe I should just get a revolver and a semi auto:rofl:

The CZ P01 grip frame feels like a slightly smaller version of the Browning Hi-Power, one of my all-time favorites. The CZ P07 has a bit more rake to it and reminds me of being more like a 1911 grip frame. The Ruger SR9c is nothing like the other two but I like it primarily because it seems like it was designed with someone with smaller hands in mind.

All three sit very comfortably in my hand as well as being very natural pointers; that is they come up on target quickly and the sights are easy to acquire.

Bannockburn thanks for the suggestions. I’ll have to stop by my lgs and just hold a few CZ’s. I’m really curious about the po1 or the 75 compact

My CZ's in general are my favorite service pistols.

My best deals by far have been my military surplus and police trade-ins.

For example, a Glock 22 (full-sized 40 caliber) with the box and three magazines for $289:

I have ordered stuff from Kings, AIM, Classic, and various others.

Police turn-ins tend to have been carried a lot and shot seldom.

As a genre they are WELL worth looking into.

I think that's what I paid for my turn-in Glock 22 a year or two ago, which also came with three mags and the box.

It had barely been fired:

The craftmanship and trigger on this Sig 229 are amazing. It's one of my very favorite handguns.

Also a trade-in, also with spare mags, also $280-something plus shipping and FFL.

The slide is scratched, but I don't care. It's stainless anyway. This would have been an expensive pistol if I bought it new.

As others have said, the Taurus G2c is a very nice pistol just the size of a G26 and usually available for around $200 NiB.

The trigger is odd, but easy enough to get used to.

Yeah, the Canik TP9 series are also nice pistols. It's a copy of a Walther, IIRC.

Mine is a very nice shooter. I think they are not much more than $300 NiB. I paid closer to $200 used.

Another favorite of mine is the Walther PPQ. The trigger is very light, which I prefer.

I got mine for around $400 used. I'm not sure what they cost NiB.

The SAR B6c is a Turkish polymer copy of the CZ75 compact.

I have owned two and paid less than $250 apiece for them NiB.

Mine have both been very good pistols.

If the OP is interested in a CZ75 compact for possible carry, this would be one to consider.

Ditto on the Ruger and CZ. What holster are you wearing on with the SR9C?
thanks

I would be remiss if I didn't mention a personal favorite, the 1911.

Their size, shape, and triggers are excellent for me.

I own them in 45acp, 40 S&W, and 9mm. They are available in slightly smaller sizes and with rails.

This one cost me something like $349 NiB. It's an RIA from the Philippines. The larger than original sights are necessary for my aging eyesight.

I would feel quite confident using it for SD. The smaller calibers hold more rounds, of course, and they are also available with double-stack magazines.

Be careful, they're such a joy to shoot that they're addictive.

If I could only own one handgun, it would be a 357 or 38 special revolver.

This is my S&W Model 28 "Highway Patrolman". I paid somewhere in the mid $400's for it used.

Its DA and SA triggers put any semiautomatic service pistol to shame.

A smaller-framed one (this is the large frame) with a 3" barrel is fairly easy to conceal.

Gen4 Glock 23/32, Warren Tactical sights. Front fiberoptic, rear plain black.

Surefire Xc1 light and a Bravo Concealment holster or similar. Many guys are offering holsters for the XC1 now.

Broken record from me. Sorry.

VP9 or VP9SK get my vote.

Wonderful trigger and easy to shoot. Oh, and ergos that don’t make me sad.

Since you already have and are familiar with the Glock 43, perhaps a Glock 48 would be for you. It is the same height and length as a Glock 19, but about the width of the Glock 43. The stock 10 rounds magazines should be adequate, but if you wish, shield arms offers flush fit 15 round magazines. This is what I carry. Same height, width and magazine capacity as a G19 but in a slimmer package that is more comfortable to carry. It also shoots very nicely. I spent the afternoon popping clay pigeons at 15 yards with mine today.
