Glock 44 vs Taurus TX22

Gunny thanks for the review. I have the TX22 and I like it a lot. On the front sight it was hard for me to see at times. I changed it out with a factory front sight that came off of my glock 30. The sight has a larger cleaner dot that is much easier for me to pick up.
I agree with you that the front sight is not that good. I blacked out the dots on the rear sights of my TX22 and it’s easer to use. I plan on replace the sights as soon as I can find something I like. I plan on working on the G44’s trigger before changing the sights on it.

Great review - thanks for sharing, Gunny.

I have a Walther PPQ 22 M2 and a couple of German Sport Guns GSG-1911 .22LR Pistols and they are the most fun 'bang for the buck' (or at least 'POP' for the buck) firearms to take along to the range. Something about shooting a nice 'Full Size' rimfire semi-auto handgun is enjoyable for both novice and seasoned shooters.

When Taurus came out with the TX22 I was totally disinterested in it, but your candid review has me thinking that I may need to keep my eye open for one at a good sale price. Over the past three-four weeks I have been able to get three Glock 44 pistols in stock from my distributors and I am quite impressed with how nice they look and feel. Only one has sold so far - the customer took it out and ran several hundred rounds through it and absolutely loves it.

Thanks again for the info, and your pictures, as always, are superb.

Nice little review and comparison, Gunny. I haven't had the chance to shoot the G 44, but got a little trigger time on the TX 22 and was actually somewhat impressed ... it ran great, was quite accurate and blessed with a surprisingly good trigger.

I think the trigger is one of the best things on the TX22, and it is pretty accurate.
Here are some targets from the other day. Each target has five groups from each gun fired offhand at seven yards.
The ammo I used was Armscor HV 36 gr. HP.
As you can see, bout guns shoot very well as long as I do my part.
First is the one from the Taurus TX22

Here’s the one from the Glock G44

And just for fun I pulled out my Advantage Arms LE 17-22 conversion, on a Polymer80 frame. I was surprised at how well I shot it because it has one hell of a heavy trigger pull. But the sights are nice.

Gunny thank you, very detailed and fair review.
I don't know how many round went through the pistols. However, I noticed a small level of galling on the TX mag over the area of feed lips,
I wonder how long will take to give you headaches (hopefully not).
Being a relatively new owner of Glock 17 the Advantage kit called me few thoughts.
Nevertheless, G44 sound like is ready for plinking with me.
Lastly, what ammo did you use (can of worm, alert).

The ammo used in this post was Armscor High Velocity 36 gr. Hollow Point. The first target with just the G44 and the TX22 had nickel plated cases and the set of three targets was with brass cases.
Academy Sports has their store brand Monarch, which is just repackaged Armscor. It sells for $19.95 a brick.

Target Sport USA had a sale on the nickel plated Armscor and I ordered 3000 rounds.
I have about 300 rounds fired through the TX22 so far and it’s all been the Armscor ammo.
I have only had one failure to feed with the TX22 that happened in the first fifty rounds. The nose of one bullet caught on the feed ramp.
I need to run different types of ammo through it like I did with the Glock G44, but I think it will feed just about anything.

It seems really weird seeing the glock in 22 lr. I hope they dont stray too far from the original idea. That said it could still be a neat gun. the g44

My TX22 came with a mag loading tool that really helps. I generally prefer tool assistance over brute force fingers or off-hand pulling down on tabs. YMMV
Couldn't get by without my UpLula universal loader tool for my center-fire pistols.

Gunny,
How is the barrel in you TX22?

Mine shoots well, but it has one of the rough barrels that lead quickly. Like so many others I'm on the waiting list for a new barrel.

Mine is a new production so, it has one of the new barrels in it. Haven’t had any trouble with leading.

I got my TX about a month ago and love it. It's hard to put the thing down sometimes, it shoots very well and that trigger..if Taurus made a similar sized model in 9 or 40 I'd be pretty tempted to buy one. I used to hate Taurus (their revolvers especially) but I got the TX and a newer revolver of theirs and they're both doing very well. I have hopes Glock might make their own .22 conversion kits for their guns at some point.
