Although our gun stores are open and deemed essential businesses my FFL tried all day without success to get through for the NICS check. My gun resides in his safe for who knows how long. The line was busy every time he tried. Once he does get through there will be a long delay due to the system being swamped. So I've got a pre-delay delay. I read there has been a 300% increase in checks lately and some local FFLs are refusing to do transfers. I was wondering how many of you are experiencing this?

Thankfully my CHL/LTC serves as the background check here in Texas. That's good because I just hit the Buy button on a hard to find item on Gunbroker.

I normally have the local shop call my check in since I have a UPIN. This past Wednesday the 25th, they said that they could not even get through to anyone for a NICS check over the phone. Even the computer check was slow that day. It usually takes 10-15 minutes for my check to go through with either method but it took about 1 hour that day. I know that my UPIN does slow things down.

Took about 3 hours two Mondays ago probably didn't help it was after 5pm and the store was crazy cant imagine it being any different in every other store. It wasn't a need purchase for me but it was a good deal I couldn't walk away from. A quick trip for just some extra ammo turned into a few hours. Pretty sure it would take a lot longer now that the panic and fear are growing more each day.

My friend just bought a gun and is held up. He said 1st time in 25 years.

Your dealer needs to remember that he has two ways to access the FBI NICS:
Toll free call
NICS Echeck

Echeck is web based.

I prefer the phone. but use Echeck when there is more than a five minute wait time.

My LGS uses Check.

I am confused about what you wrote. Are you saying that your LTC takes the place of a NICS check in Texas?

Went in last Wednesday. Was told there is a 6 hour wait. Guess who walked out 20 min later? This guy that's who. Could be because the FBI has my prints and background from a previous job. Or could be that I buy so much they are used to seeing my name. The owner was highly shocked it only took 20 minutes. Had a store fill of folks waiting.

I haven't had to wait on a phone call for years, my CWP has saved me a lot of time. No long lines at the gun stores here, but still very busy with long wait times and lots of holes in the ammo inventory.

As a reminder "NICS" isn't the same for everyone.;)
Most states contact FBI NICS directly, others contact a state agency (called a "POC" or point of contact)

FBI NICS is a toll free call, provided at no charge to licensed dealers. If your state charges you....thats your fault for tolerating a fee.:cuss:The FBI does not charge states.

As noted by an "*" , some states have a firearm permit that exempts buyers from the FBI NICS check.

Is this voluntarily used? I see Michigan has an asterisk, but every time I've bought I get to go through the phone call, even though I've got a CPL.

Obviously, I expect that at a Dunhams or Cabelas.

Do you present the dealer your CPL?
