How many different hunting guns?

I got rid of a lot of my collection 7 or 8 years ago and only kept the ones that I use with the exception of my little 28/410 Italian shotgun. I haven't shot it in 4 or 5 years but it is pretty nice. Guns I shoot are:

20ga Beretta BL-3 doves and clays
12 ga Win 1300 with spare barrel for ducks and turkeys
22 CZ 455 for small game and plinking.
a pair of 22/45 Rugers. One with a reddot.
GP100 with a reddot I think that it has taken 8 deer.
243 Rem 700 with 4x14 Legend for deer and varmint.
6.5 CM in a Bergara B-14. It wears a 6X18 Vortex. Long range deer and steel plates.
300 WSM in a Savage 10. Wears a 2X7 Leupold. For elk, bears and deer in the timber.
40 S&W Browning Hi-Power Practical for HD.
Ruger Security 9 just because.
380 Glock for carry.
Anderson AR with a Rise trigger and Propoint just to piss Biden off.

There might be a few just for kicks and giggles, but these get used.

Would you guys hang onto the Slug barrel of gift it to a friend or someone who cant afford one?
I'd probably give it away.....But that's me.
I accumulate crap, then decide I've got to much and send it home with friends, neighbors, or random people at the range........
And yes I've bought stuff, haven't used it and given it away, then some time later bought another of the same/similar things.

Right now I REALLY want a .357 or .45 lever gun.....I had one a few years ago, but sold it to a kid who really wanted it, for significantly less than it was worth......been 4 years or so, but yep I came back around.....again

It's amazing how often that circle comes back around...sadly the old flame is never less expensive to replace than it was to acquire back in the day, it's always more...:(

Stay safe.

I could do all the hunting on this continent with a 450 Bushmaster a 12 ga shotgun, and a 22 Mag. Maybe a longer range gun for out west like a 25-06 or some such. I’ll buy that one if I am ever going to hunt out there when the time comes.

As it is I have the 450 BM, 44 mag rifle, 444 Marlin, 30-06, 20 ga shotgun, and 22 mag as my hunting guns.

I want to consolidate more but I just love the 44 and 444 too much. I will get rid of the 30-06 in time.

What rifle is that 30-06?

The only non-hunting guns I own are handguns, but only 6 of them. For long guns, while I could certainly get by with only one of each 22lr, 22 Hornet, 270, 338 and 12 ga, I have backups for each. And my wife prefers 308 and 20 ga, so we have backups to both of those as well. There is some logic at play here: at least one of each pair is an old Ruger tang-safety (22's excluded), and parts for those are getting hard to come by, so backups seem prudent - at least that's my excuse. Then of course there are the 22lr, 32 Spl and 30/30 Marlins and a Browning BLR, either inherited or acquired for sentimental reasons from friends now gone...and my first gun, a 22/410 Savage 24C...and then there is...frankly, I didn't know you could sell a gun...and my wife agrees:)

Guns I hunt:
------------------------
CZ 455 .22LR in a Manners stock for squirrel
CZ 527 .223/556 for coyotes
Browning B78 6mm Improved for coyotes
Connecticut Shotgun RBL 20ga for rabbits and upland stuff
Browning 625 Lightning 12ga for all sorts of heavier shotgun stuff (my former upland gun too)
Ithaca 37 12ga - also all sorts of shotgun hunting
Kimber 8400 Classic 7mm WSM - mule deer & elk
MRC 1999 325 WSM spot & stalk bears + mule deer and elk in bear country
Browning B71 in .50-110 (or whatever you want to call that with fast twist and heavy bullets) for predator calling bear

In addition I have a .416 Rigby that I haven't hunted yet but would like to (bear, or possibly water or cape buffalo) and a .300 WM that I'm playing around with using the 200gr Federal Terminal Ascent because it seems to be such an incredible bullet. That may make a trip soon.

I've got no shortage of other rifles, but those are the ones that I currently actively hunt with.

Just curious who has multiple hunting guns and why? I am starting to think I should ditch some of my stuff to make room and well not collect dust.

I have 2 inline ML. Ones a $100 piece of crap someone gave me. Just cant seem to get rid of the cheap one.
12GA Mossberg pump I have only used maybe 2 times in the last like 3yrs.
20ga O/U. Only use is rabbits and pheasant.
2 deer rifles in different calibers.
1 cantilever scope mount slug barrel with no scope. Haven't used it in 5yrs.
2 savage axis 223rem rifles. One is my pride and joy with lots of upgrades and the other is a standard barrel/trigger and I justify it by saying its my coyote gun or backup to the better one. The better one went in the savage shop for about 3 months a few years back.
2 savage mark II 22lr. One is a nice HB with a target scope and the other is wood stock, standard barrel with heavy trigger and $20 scope.

I just cant seem to get rid of these copies of guns or guns I don't use because I tell myself its a backup or what if someone else goes with me and needs a gun?

Anyone else in the boat?
I have multiple guns for the same use that are different chamberings.
My argument is when my two sons from big enough to shoot, they can pick their favorites and I'll thin it down afterwords.
I've found my 357 carbine, 240 Wby, and 45 Cal inline get the nod almost every time I hunt.
Everything else is waiting to see if my 2 boys want them when they are old enough to shoot. If they don't want them, they will find a new home.
My AR has started to grow on me. But it will never be a deer gun.

I have the following I would hunt with:
5 centerfire rifles (2 ar, 2 lever, 1 bolt)
2 muzzle loaders (caplock)
Plenty 22 rifles
4 shotguns, one of each common gauge except 28 and10
2 .357 handguns
A contender
2 22 handguns suitable for hunting
And a bunch more that wouldn’t go hunting.

Almost half of my long guns, and about half of my handguns are "hunting guns".

I'm set for anything heavier than birds, and lighter than Cape Buffalo, though I'm sure .35 Whelen or .454 would even do for that, in a pinch.

I probably was in that "boat" once upon a time. That is, way back when, I probably did tell myself I was hanging on to some hunting guns as "backups" or "loaners." That sure sounds like something I'd do alright.
However, I got over making excuses for hanging onto to hunting guns I no longer use. Nowadays, I just admit that I'm a sentimental old fool.:D

I think it is true that 20 percent of the hunters take 80 percent of the game. I think the most successful hunters have several rifles but they have their one favorite rifle they use most of the time.

I have more than I need for sure, but not nearly as many as I want.
Most of my stuff is geared around hunting. Don't get me wrong, I have fun at the range, but I can't say I have any guns that are strictly for fun.

So, of my dozen or so firearms, all but 2 (my CC gun and nightstand gun) could be used for hunting and serve me well.

Same here.
Except for my trapdoor springfield.

As a kid, I remember "loaner" guns. Now I realize that is a bad idea most of the time.
Mentoring and outfitting a new hunter is a totally different thing.
I do "loan" my new guns to my brother to try for a few months to a year.
When we hunt together, he'll occasionally want me to use one of his to see what I think.

For my 2¢ the key here is whether or not you like a particular 'style' (or mode, method, what have you) of hunting you enjoy.
If you like bowling for prairie pins, you will probably want something that does that very well. If you stalk deer in wooded river bottoms, you'll probably want something specific to that task. Perhaps you are inclined to sit in ant nests and out-wile turkeys in the spring--that will want something middling specific to that task. Perhaps going after Dahl rams is your thing, that might want something more specific than what you might want for mule deer.

Or, maybe you can find a happy medium that meets your needs. We probably can only suggests, what's in your heart, your region, (range of your wallet, too) probably matter more.

Don’t knock the loaner gun. They are a powerful force in the creation of new hunters. People don’t usually want to spend hundreds on something they may or may not like.
In this scenario I do NOT mean handing it to someone to carry off. I mean they hunt when you hunt and the gun comes back to you before you part ways and head home.

Ohhh Axis II....don't you realize you do not have nearly enough guns. There is pure joy in standing in front of my gun case/safe and deciding which of my 5 squirrel rifles I should take today. Or deciding which of 3 shotguns I should hunt turkeys with, which of 3 deer rifles. You get the pattern here. Even as I write this note, I can think of a dozen guns I would love to buy and shoot, if only occasionally. In the last week, I took 7 different rifles and 3 pistols to the pistol/rifle range. Yep...you don't have enough

I’ve got a pile of hunting rifles and shotguns. But of the rifles there are three that get used most often. A Steyr Scout in .308, A model 70 in .375 H&H and another M-70 in .270 Wthby. Shotgun wise I generally grab a Baretta 686 in 28 Ga for just about anything except water fowl.

I have sold/traded two or three guns to buy one. Great way to upgrade into a dream gun!

I agree.
When I was younger, I wanted a lot of guns.
Now, I want nice guns. Quality over quantity.

I have no issue trading or selling guns I rarely use (assuming there is no sentimental value) to go towards the purchase of one I am really wanting.
