The virus has forced cancellation of my coyote safari, but can't stop planning or dreaming about hunts to come. So here's the question: I know lots of guys who always take a shotgun to their set-up for close in shots. I've needed one twice. So, am thinking about buying a dedicated coyote shotgun. The Stoeger came to mind (a friend recommend it). Because they are much less expensive than many others....talking semi-auto here. I liked the looks of the bronze model and it can be had for about $500. Your thoughts please?
BTW, it could also serve as my turkey gun. It comes with a XFT choke tube, which I think means Extra Full Turkey. The XFT would of course be the coyote choice too.

I owned a M2000 quite a few years ago and never had issues. Recoil will be pretty stout with turkey and coyote loads especially since the M3000 is inertia operated, but of course there won’t be volume shooting when used for your stated purposes. I won’t own a Stoeger O/U or SxS but wouldn’t hesitate to have a Stoeger semi.

That being said I’d rather have a Mossberg 930 Turkey. They can be had for the same price or less than the Stoeger depending on the model, there are two. I believe the 930 to be better quality. I‘d also ignore the fact the Stoeger or any other shotgun comes with a turkey choke. It might pattern great but then again there’s a good chance it won’t. And unless you use the same shells for turkey and coyote you’ll probably need a different choke for each use.

What's your beef with their side by sides?

M3000 YES! I shot one several years ago just to try one out. I really liked it, but never got around to picking one up. Now i wish i had...

For calling yotes I use a Benelli M1S90 in tactical configuration, 18.5" barrel with a Pattern Master choke loaded with #1 buck.

I do have a Stoeger M3K that I shoot in 3Gun though and have never had an issue with it. The M3K is probably the most prevalent shotgun I see at matches now, either slightly more so than Benellis, or just slightly fewer.

There are a few members that will be offended by this but bottom line IMO is they suck.

Poorly made. To hit their price point, corners are cut and QC is poor. Barrel regulation is erratic. Customer 'service' has been extremely problematic. Maybe Beretta has that in hand now. They will certainly have practice.

For a field gun, the M3000 may suit but you'll be better off with a Mossberg should anything go wrong.

I have seen several M3000 and M3500 guns on the clay ranges. Some seemed to run ok. Some did not. I saw enough that did not to make me know I don't want one.

I have a friend with a "fully hot-rodded" M3000 that he used heavily for 3 gun, and another friend who has one of the "hunting" models that he speaks highly of that he uses for duck and turkey.

So they're Taurus. I get it.

My nephew has one and have to say I was quite impressed after some range time. I have too many shotguns as it is, but wish I had seen these earlier. Some interesting Youtube videos on them. I would say that they are in quality like the Beretta 92 to the Stoeger. Not as refined not the same high quality but good quality and run great. And Hey, Beretta now runs the show for them. Smart move on Beretta IMO.

I had one, planned to setup for 3 gun but work and life got in the way and sold it. It ran everything without issue, broke it in with heavy loads to start and would run standard field loads no problem. It would not cycle low recoil loads, but that was expected. I decided after owning it that I didn't care for inertia shotguns and have switched to gas guns instead.

Stoeger semis and pumps are made in Turkey. O/U and SxS are made in Brazil.

In the corporate hierarchy Benelli is a subsidiary of Beretta, Franchi and Stoeger are subsidiaries of Benelli. Beretta customer service is bad, it’s been well documented. Surprisingly to me Benelli customer service is pretty good and Stoeger customer service is handled by Benelli. Pretty good in that they are polite and try to help. Never dealt with them for a Stoeger issue.

Edit: The good Doctor posted while I was typing making this post redundant.
